Marian devotion
Virgin of Copacabana in Argentina
Salta, Argentina
The devotion to the Virgin of Copacabana came with the Bolivian miners to the northern provinces.
In Salta and Jujuy, the miners and farmers venerate the Virgin of Copacabana, brought from Bolivia. The small image traveled with them on their travels along the highways of Peru.
Tradition tells that the Virgin protects those who work in the mines and in the high fields. The miners light candles before they go down to the minion.
