Armenia was the first country to adopt Christianity as an official religion (301 AD). The Virgin Mary is the mother who has protected Armenia since the first centuries.
Tradition tells that Saint Gregory the Illuminator saw a vision of Christ coming down from heaven to point out the place where the cathedral should be built. The Virgin Mary was present in this vision.
