In Gyumri, the second city of Armenia, the Cathedral of the Holy Archangels is the center of the Christian faith. The Virgin Mary is venerated as the protector of the city.
Faith after the earthquake
In 1988, Gyumri suffered a devastating earthquake that killed 25,000 people. The faithful prayed the Rosary before the image of the Virgin Mary, asking for the release of the survivors.
Tradition tells that the Virgin protected the survivors of the earthquake. The faithful believe that the Virgin guides and protects them in times of difficulty.
