Marian devotion
Where is he?
Ave Maria Grotto is in Ikate- Elegushi, Lekki, within the state of Lagos, Nigeria. The directory of the Archdiocese of Lagos identifies it as "Ave Maria Catholic Church Grotto, Lekki" and gives the address of 32 Kusalala Road, Ikate Elegushi, Lekki Peninsula II. The map uses an OpenStreetMap mapping reference for the Ikate area. The precision is locality: the point does not claim to be the inner position of the grotto, the altar or the church.
Documented history
The official source of the Archdiocese confirms that Ave Maria Grotto is a Catholic community of its territory and publishes its own fiche with its direction. The parish page leaves some sections "pending update," so it does not allow to rebuild a complete history of the foundation, image or architecture. This absence is visible in the file: no approximate dates or names of promoters are added that are not documented.
The name itself unites two related but not identical realities: a Catholic church and a Marian grotto. The name does not automatically convert the place into a canon sanctuary or show an apparition. It does make it possible to state that the Archdiocese recognizes a parish community with that name and that space is used for Marian prayer and pilgrimage according to published pastoral information.
The grotto as a place of prayer
A grotto of Mary offers the faithful a visible place to pray, contemplate the Gospel and ask for the intercession of the Virgin. Christian practice does not attribute a magical power to stone, image or coordinate. Prayer is addressed to God and, through Mary, requests his intercession before Jesus Christ. The fiche uses "allowed cult" to describe this insertion into the Catholic parish life, not to claim that a supernatural phenomenon has been approved.
The Archdiocesan directory links the place to Kusalala Road and the Ikate-Elegushi area. This direction is also a protection against homonyms: there are many churches and grotto called Ave Maria in different countries. This page refers exclusively to the community of Lekki, Nigeria. It is not fused with other claims or with the homonymous grotto of another place.
Tradition and what does not contain
The research consulted mentions the existence of pilgrimages and Marian activities in the place, but the official pages accessible in this lot do not offer a complete historical record or a primary account of apparition. Therefore, no alleged apparition is presented as a fact, no cures are attributed and no "miracle" is called to a testimony that has no documented ecclesial recognition.
Nor does it contain in the sources used a date of canonical coronation, a declaration of basilica or a decree that elevates the enclosure to a sanctuary in a legal sense. The marker uses the type "sanctuary" as a cartographic category of the Marian pilgrimage place and not as an additional affirmation of its canonical range.
Ecclesial State
The Archdiocese of Lagos includes Ave Maria Catholic Church Grotto in its parish directory and offers an institutional chart with direction and contact details. This documents the community and its ordinary Catholic cult, which is recorded as permitted veneration. The source does not contain a pronunciation on supernatural, or a no obstat specific for an apparition linked to the enclosure.
Prayer
Holy Mary, Mother of Jesus, accompanies the community of Lekki and all who come to Ave Maria Grotto. Take us to your Son, teach us to hear His Word and help us to live faith with charity, prudence and hope. Amen.
