Marian devotion
Our Lady of Nassau
Nassau, Bahamas
Bahamian Catholics venerate the Virgin Mary in the country's capital.
In Nassau, the capital of Bahamas, the Cathedral of Santa Maria is the center of the Catholic faith. The Irish missionaries established devotion in the 19th century.
Faith in the Caribbean Islands
The Bahamas is a mostly Protestant country. Catholics are a minority, but their faith is deep. The Virgin Mary is the mother who protects them on the Caribbean islands.
Tradition tells that the Virgin protects Bahamian Catholics, who are a devout minority. The faithful pray the Rosary in their homes, knowing that the Virgin listens to them.
