Our Lady of Copacabana
Copacabana, Bolivia
The Virgin of Copacabana is the mother of the people of Titicaca.
In Copacabana, on the banks of Lake Titicaca, the Sanctuary of the Virgin is the center of devotion for the Aymara and Quechuas peoples. The image was carved by Tito Yupanqui in the 16th century.
The pilgrims climb the barefoot hill, carrying candles and flowers. The Virgin is the mother who understands the languages and cultures of the Andes.
