Marian devotion
Our Lady of Urkupiña
Cochabamba, Bolivia
The Virgin of Urkupiña is the patron saint of Bolivia and one of the most beloved claims.

In 1781, a pastor named Catalino Hualka saw a light on the mountain of Quillacollo. When he went up, he found an image of the Virgin in a cave. The image shone with a golden light.
Los indígenas la llamaron «Urkupiña» que en quechua significa «collado de la Virgen». Cada agosto, millones de peregrinos suben la montaña para venerarla.
The Virgin promised that whoever touched the rock where she was found would have her pains relieved. The faithful touch the rock with handkerchiefs and keep them as relics.
