Marian Advocations of Bosnia and Herzegovina
Bosnia and Herzegovina has one of the most famous Marian sites in the world: Medjugorjewhere, since 1981, the Queen of Peace has been venerated (devotion approved by the Vatican in 2024). Next to her, Olovothe oldest sanctuary in Bosnia, Gospa Ramska; and the Serbian Orthodox monasteries of the Mother of God. We collect Latin and Orthodox rites, by region.
♪ Medjugorje and the Marian wonders of Bosnia ♪
El 24-25 June 1981on the hill of Podbrdo (Bijakovići), six young people -Ivanka, Mirjana, Vicka, Marija, Ivan y Jakov, the under-ten - said to see a beautiful lady with a child in her arms. He came back day after day and presented himself as Queen of Peace (Kraljica Look). Since then, his simple message - peace, conversion, prayer of the heart, fasting, Eucharist and confession, the "five pebbles" - has attracted the More than 40 million pilgrims. Medjugorje is called "the confessional of the world" for its endless ranks of penitents, and every August brings together tens of thousands of young people at the festival Mladifest.
"Dear children, I invite you to peace": so many of the messages of the Queen of Peace began.
El 19 September 2024the Vatican took a historic step: through the Note "The Queen of Peace"with the approval of Pope Francis, he granted the «nihil obstat» a la devoción of Medjugorje and recognized its abundant spiritual fruits. It is appropriate to specify it with accuracy: the Church approved devotion and fruits, but did not declare that the apparitions are of supernatural origin - they remain "alleged"; it encourages the faithful to welcome them with confidence and, at the same time, with caution.
Bosnia and Herzegovina also keeps other Marian jewels:
- Olovo - the oldest Marian sanctuary in Bosnia, documented since the 15th century; its original image was lost in Ottoman times, but devotion never died.
- Gospa Ramska (Rama-Šćit) - his image accompanied the dramatic exodus of the Catholics of Rama in 1687; a copy is venerated today in Sinj (Croatia), joining both peoples.
- Conjillo - great Romeria of the Assumption that brings together the Catholics of the Posavina and the diaspora.
- Žitomislić, Tvrdoš y Dobrun - Serbian Orthodox monasteries of the Mother of God, destroyed and rebuilt over and over again over the centuries.

Our Lady Queen of Peace of Medjugorje
The devotion to Our Lady Queen of Peace in Medjugorje is linked to the phenomenon of the alleged Marian apparitions initiated on 24 June 1981 in Medjugorje, in Herzegovina, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The advocation of Our Lady of Rama (Gospa Ramska) is linked to the secular presence of the Franciscans and the Catholic population in the Rama Valley, in the present Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Mother of God of Tvrdoš
The Mother of God of Tvrdoš (Presveta Bogorodica) is linked to the historic Orthodox monastery of Tvrdoš, located on the right bank of the Trebišnjica River, a few kilometres from Trebinje, in the region of Herzegovina (Bosnia and Herzegovina).

Mother of God of Žitomisli ć
The advocation venerated in Žitomislić is the Bogorodica Presveta - "Most Holy Mother of God" in the Orthodox tradition - associated with the Serbian Orthodox monastery of Žitomislić, in Herzegovina, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Mother of God of Dobrun
The Orthodox monastery of Dobrun, near Višegrad (East Bosnia, Bosnia and Herzegovina), retains an ancient dedication to the Presentation of the Virgin and is part of the region's Serbian-Orthodox medieval heritage.

Our Lady of Tihaljina (the image of the Queen of Peace)
The very beautiful image that the world associates with the Queen of Peace of Međugorje: the seers pointed out it as the most similar to the Virgin they saw, and Fr. Jozo Zovko spread his photo all over the world. Many pilgrims say that their face changes in expression.
