Marian devotion
Our Lady of Aparecida
Aparecida, Brazil
The most venerated Virgin of Latin America. Patron of Brazil.

In 1717, three fishermen from the Tietê River were fishing without success. An Indian told them to throw the net in a specific place. When she was taken out, inside was a black image of the Virgin. From that moment on, the fish never stopped biting.
The small 38 cm clay image became the center of Brazil's largest devotion. The sanctuary receives 12 million pilgrims a year, more than Lourdes and Fatima together.
El Papa Francisco, cuando era arzobispo de Buenos Aires, dijo que Aparecida era «la madre que nos reúne a todos los latinoamericanos».
