- The Asunción Cathedral, built in a neo-Gothic style by French missionaries, is the oldest Catholic cathedral in Thailand.
- It has survived two centuries of Thai history, including wars and the modernization of the country, and has remained a symbol of the Catholic presence in the Buddhist kingdom.
- The image of Our Lady of the Assumption who presides over the main altar was brought from France in the 19th century.
- Every 15 August, the feast of the Assumption is celebrated with solemn mass and procession through the historic district of Bang Rak.

The Cathedral of the Assumption of Bangkok was built in 1821 by missionaries of the Foreign Missions of Paris, being the first important Catholic church in Thailand. Inside it is a venerated image of the Virgin Mary in her Assumption to the heavens. The cathedral is the center of Catholic life in Bangkok.
