The Orthodox Syrian Cathedral of the Virgin Mary (Meryem Ana), of the Orthodox Syrian rite, is located in the Beyoğlu district of Istanbul and is the center of the Orthodox Syrian Church in Turkey. The original church is from the 19th century and is dedicated to the Mother of God (Yoldath Aloho in Syrian tradition). It is the home of the local vicariate, with a strong identity burden against the difficulties of the 20th century.

The image and the sanctuary

The temple is consecrated to the Mother of God. On individualized miracles there is nothing verifiable in open sources; there are general testimonies of the faithful that attribute to the intercession of the Virgin the preservation of the community during episodes of violence and discrimination in Istanbul throughout the twentieth century. They're community stories, no canonical processes.

There is no record of formal patronage or canonical coronation.

Party and devotion

In the Syrian tradition, the Virgin is honored as Theotokos (Mother of God), with numerous hymns and pleas. The cathedral celebrates with particular solemnity the Sleeping or Assumption of Mary and the Nativity of the Virgin.

Link to the Rosary

The Latin Rosary does not belong to the Orthodox Syrian tradition, which venerates the Mother of God with her own hymns and prayers. Even so, the intense devotion to the Theotokos that beats in this cathedral coincides at the bottom with what the Rosary contemplates and celebrates.
