Marian devotion
The story of Chiquinquirá
Chiquinquirá, Boyacá, Colombia
An old and forgotten canvas was miraculously renewed in the eyes of Maria Ramos.
In 1562, a Spanish painter named Alonso de Narváez painted a canvas of the Virgin of the Rosary for a chapel in the region of Tunja. The image was of indigenous cotton and was 125 cm wide by 111 high.
But the chapel had a straw roof and the moisture destroyed the canvas. The image was so damaged that it was practically not seen. She was taken to Chiquinquirá and abandoned in a room that almost no one used.
