A canvas destroyed by moisture was restored alone, without human intervention.
The Chiquinquirá canvas was so damaged that the colors had been erased and the fabric had holes. Maria Ramos put him in the oratory and prayed for days asking the Virgin to manifest.
On December 26, 1586, an indigenous woman named Isabel saw the canvas shining. When Maria Ramos went to see, the image was perfect: the living colors, the closed holes, the renewed fabric.
The experts have studied the canvas for centuries and have found no explanation for the renewal. The fabric is of indigenous cotton, but the colors seem to have appeared out of nowhere.
