In 1586, a painted canvas of the Virgin was so damaged that it was to be burned. A maid discovered it under the dust and, when it was cleaned, the image was miraculously renewed. The colors were alive again and the Virgin seemed to smile.
The miracle was witnessed by the bishop and people of the people. Since then, Chiquinquirá is the most important Marian sanctuary in Colombia.
The Virgin of Chiquinquira shows that even the old and forgotten can be renewed by God.
