During La Violencia (1948-1958), when Colombia lived its most bloody civil war, Colombians came to the Virgin of Fatima to ask for peace. The devotion spread throughout the country.
Tradition tells that the Virgin of Fatima protected Colombians during the violence. The peasants prayed the Rosary and the Virgin protected them from violence.
Today, there are chapels of Fatima in almost every city in Colombia.
Fatima teaches us that prayer can stop violence.
