The Virgin of the Peña was found on a rock of the Cerro de Monserrate.
In Cerro de Monserrate, in Bogotá, the faithful venerate an image of the Virgin who was found on a rock. Tradition says the image was carved by an indigenous who converted to Christianity.
The bogotans go up to Monserrate every Monday to pray to the Virgin of Peña. The road has 1,500 steps and the faithful raise it barefoot as penance.
