Assumption of Mary of Inhu-dong - A community of Jeonju oriented towards hope

The invocation has not been attributed by the subsequent presence of a Marian garden. It is the ecclesial identity of the parish from its origin.

Asunción is not Ascension

La Ascension He refers to Jesus Christ, who ascends to heaven by his own power. The Assumption refers to Mary, led by God in body and soul to glory at the end of her earthly life.

This difference protects the Christological center of faith. Mary receives what Christ has conquered; she does not occupy the place of the Saviour.

Hope does not eliminate mourning or promise that all pain will disappear immediately. He claims that death and injustice do not have the last word.

Foundation from Nosong-dong

Inhu-dong was erected on 24 January 1987, separated from the parish of Nosong-dong. It was responding to the population increase in a new urban area of Jeonju.

The creation of the community brought the Eucharist, catechesis and pastoral care to families who could no longer be adequately cared for from a single temple.

The temple ended in 1988

The construction was completed 24 December 1988. The set was raised on a ground of 627 pyeng y alcanzó 459 pyeng built surface, according to the chronicle of the time.

Why the dedication came in 1990

The building of the Assumption

The new building was named after Seongmo Seungcheon-gwan, "Building of the Assumption of Mary," following the parish patronage. It has three floors and about seventy pyeng surface.

The Marian Garden

The blessing of 2021 took place precisely on August 15, the solemnity of the Assumption. The coincidence was deliberate and highlighted the identity of the community.

In Korea, that date also coincides with National Liberation Day. Faith and civil memory are unconfused: the liturgy celebrates the mystery of Mary and society remembers its own history.

Prayer for those who wait

The Assumption supports those who live long processes: disease, mourning, migration, unemployment or family reconciliation. It offers not an escape, but a hope that allows us to persevere.

Mary glorified recalls that no faithful and hidden life is forgotten by God.

No confundir Inhu-dong con Incheon

Inhu-dong is a neighborhood of Jeonjuin Jeonbuk, and belongs to the diocese of Jeonju. It is not Incheon, Icheon or Inje, Korean places with similar romanized names.

The Korean name, the full address and the coordinates allow to identify it without ambiguity.

To visit and pray

It's an active parish. It is appropriate to confirm schedules, respect the celebrations and ask for permission before photographing people. The Marian garden should be used in silence and without interfering with community activities.

One ten can be offered by those who built the temple, another by the victims of the pandemic and another by those who need hope in the face of disease and death.
