A confirmed dedication

The directory of the Episcopal Conference of Korea records the Assumption of Mary, 1 2 3 Next, as a patronage of Bang- dong. The file also confirms the archdiocese, the date of foundation and the direction.

There is no Marian apparition linked to the site. Bangi-dong is a parish dedicated to a mystery of faith and should not be presented as a sanctuary of extraordinary phenomena.

Distinction: This community of Songpa-gu was founded in 2009. It is different from Gangneung, Dangsandong, Dongbaek, Maecheon, Munjeong and other Korean parishes also dedicated to the Assumption.

A parish founded in 2009

The parish was erected 5 February 2009. It is part of a densely urban area of Seoul, where the Christian community brings together people with different rhythms of life and backgrounds.

The Assumption offers a young parish a horizon that goes beyond immediacy: human life is not intended for discarding, but for full communion with God.

What celebrates the Assumption

The Church confesses that Mary, after her earthly life, was brought in body and soul to heavenly glory. The dogma was solemnly defined by Pius XII in 1950.

This statement does not make Mary a divinity. Everything in it comes from the grace of Christ and his victory over sin and death.

A Participation in the Resurrection

The Assumption is attached to the Resurrection of Jesus. Mary participates in advance in the promise that the Church expects for all redeemed.

That's why the party doesn't look away from the world. It strengthens hope to love the present life and work for its dignity.

The body has dignity

Christian salvation does not despise the body. The Assumption recalls that the person is not a soul locked in a matter of no value: body and history belong to his identity.

This hope requires care for the sick, the elderly, people with disabilities and anyone whose body is treated as cargo or goods.

Hope for death

Death remains painful and breaks real ties. Faith does not force to hide the duel, nor does it provide rapid explanations for each loss.

Mary asunta allows to look beyond the tomb without denying the tears. In it is the destiny of life that God prepares.

A hope for the city

In a large city it is easy to measure the existence by productivity, appearance or success. The Assumption contradicts this reduction and proclaims the value of every life before God.

The community can turn this faith into an accompaniment to those who are alone, tired or invisibilized by urban speed.

Mary, sign of comfort

The Catechism presents Mary as the image and beginning of the Church that will come to its fullness. His glorification is a sign of certain hope and comfort.

That comfort is not passivity. He who awaits the resurrection protects life, repairs damage and recognizes in the other a dignity that does not cease.

Assumption and care of creation

The fate of the body also helps to value the material world as God's creation. Faith does not allow the earth to be treated as a disposable object.

Taking care of the air, water and common spaces of the city is part of the responsibility for others and future generations.

Hope for Korea

The Assumption opens a prayer for those who died without being able to say goodbye, for separated families and for those who live under threat. No border can limit God's hope.

From Bangi-dong a reconciliation that protects the life, freedom and memory of all can be called for.

verified location for the map

The episcopal direction is 3 Garak-ro 42-gil. The exact mapping search by the Korean name identifies Bangi-dong Catholic Church in 37.5126596, 127.1202928 and reproduces the same address.

The marker corresponds to the parish building of Songpa-gu and not to the administrative centre of the neighborhood or to the nearby metro station.

To visit and pray

The fourth glorious mystery can be prayed for the sick, people in mourning and those who care for life. Another ten can be offered for the reconciliation of Korea. The hours should be confirmed before they come.

Bangi-dong is a parish dedicated to the Assumption, not a place of apparitions. The visit must respect the cult and life of the community.

Prayer to the Virgin of the Assumption of Bangi-dong

Virgin Mary, raised in body and soul to glory, keeps the parish of Bangi-dong and the families of Seoul. Affirms our hope in the resurrection, teach us to care for each body and accompany those who cry. May no one be ruled out by their age, disease or poverty, and may Korea find ways of freedom, reconciliation and peace. Amen.
