Marian devotion

Mary assumed in body and soul
The Catholic faith confesses that, at the end of its earthly life, Mary was brought in body and soul to heavenly glory. The Assumption is the work of God and a unique participation in the Paschal victory of Jesus Christ.
This mystery does not turn away from the earth. It shows the fate to which the whole human person is called and affirms the dignity of the body, the hope of resurrection and the definitive victory of life over death.
An officially documented patronage
The Episcopal Conference of Korea expressly records Skills, the Assumption of Mary, as patronage of Dangsandong. The parish was erected on June 13, 1957 and belongs to the pastoral district Yeongdeungpo- Geumcheon.
An illustrated parish history, published on the occasion of its anniversary, brought together the process of foundation and growth, the apostolic groups, institutions and former military stations of the community. The work was presented precisely around the solemnity of his Patron.
August 15 in Korean History
The Solemnity of the Assumption coincides with Gwangbokjeolthe day Korea commemorates its liberation from Japanese colonial rule in 1945. In 1948, that date also marked the proclamation of the Republic of Korea.
During his 2014 visit, Pope Francis explained that the Koreans traditionally celebrate this feast in the light of their historical experience, recognizing Mary's loving intercession in the life of the people.

Political liberation is a good that must be guarded. The Assumption also opens to an inner freedom: the ability to welcome God's will, love with a clean heart and work for a reconciled society.
Francis recalled in Korea that true Christian freedom is more than being free from sin: it allows us to contemplate earthly realities with a new light and to live in hope. This union between national memory and Christian hope gives special depth to the patronage of Dangsandong.
A parish in the modern city
Dangsandong is located in a densely urban area near the Han River. The community accompanies families, young, older and working through the Eucharist, catechesis, prayer and service.
