An officially recorded dedication

The Korean Episcopal Conference records the Blessed Virgin Mary of the Rosary Prayer as a patron of Bonggok-dong. The document also confirms the diocese, the foundation and the direction.

There is no Marian apparition of the place. A parish church dedicated to the Rosary is documented, not a sanctuary of extraordinary phenomena.

Distinction: The official patronage does not say Fatima or Queen of the Rosary. Bonggok-dong must be distinguished from Namsan, Nam-Miryang, Banyawol and other Korean parishes that share the spirituality of the Rosary under different formulations.

A parish founded in 1977

The community was erected 28 December 1977. Since then it has been part of the Catholic life of Jinju and the diocese of Masan.

Its patronage offers a simple way for different generations to pray together without the depth depending on expertise.

The Rosary contemplates Christ

St. John Paul II teaches that the Rosary, although Marian in its form, is centered on Christ. With Mary we remember the events of the Gospel and learn to look to the Lord.

The avemary creates a rhythm for contemplation. The main attention is not stopped in repeated words, but in the mystery of Jesus announced at the beginning of every ten.

Word, silence and repetition

The repetition can be emptied if done in a hurry, but it can also free the mind from dispersion and give time to listen. Silence before or after each mystery helps to avoid automatism.

Scripture and liturgy support prayer. Paul VI asked that Marian piety maintain a biblical and Christological orientation.

The Joyful Mysteries

The proclamation, the visitation, the birth of Jesus, his presentation and the finding in the temple show Mary welcoming, serving and seeking.

In Bonggok-dong they can pray for mothers, children, displaced families and those who go through uncertainty.

Los mysteria luminosa

The baptism of the Lord, Cana, the proclamation of the Kingdom, the transfiguration and the Eucharist go through the public life of Jesus. In Cana, Mary detects a need and refers to the word of her Son.

His attitude teaches that prayer must tune attention to others and lead to a specific service.

The Painful Mysteries

Agony, flogging, thorns, the Calvary road and crucifixion prevent the use of devotion as a flight. Christ enters human suffering and Mary remains with him.

To pray these mysteries calls to accompany the sick and victims and to prevent any pain that can be avoided.

The glorious mysteries

The Resurrection, Ascension, Pentecost, Assumption and coronation of Mary open prayer to hope. Death doesn't have the last word.

This hope does not reduce the present commitment. Those who wait for eternal life now protect dignity, freedom and creation.

A prayer for daily life

The Rosary can pray in the church, at home, during a displacement or with a sick person. It can also be divided throughout the day when time or strength is lacking.

The quality of the prayer is not measured by speed or quantity. A single ten prayed with attention can open a real space of encounter with God.

Rosary and peace for Korea

The contemplation of Christ teaches a look that does not reduce the other to an enemy. From Jinju you can ask for separate families, religious freedom and dialogue on the peninsula.

Prayer for peace must be accompanied by respect, truth and daily gestures that repair divisions.

verified location for the map

The episcopal direction is 1178 Jinji-daero. The mapping search by the Korean name identifies Bonggok-dong Catholic Church in 35.195349, 128.0744762 and reproduces the same address.

The marker corresponds to the Jinju parish area and not to the Bonggok-dong generic centre.

To visit and pray

The mystery of the day can be prayed and one ten for the city, one for the suffering and another for the reconciliation of Korea. The hours should be confirmed directly before they come.

Bonggok-dong is a parish dedicated to the Virgin of the Rosary, not a place of apparitions. The visit must respect the cult and the community.

Prayer to the Virgin of the Rosary of Bonggok-dong

Blessed Virgin Mary of the Rosary, keep the parish of Bonggok-dong and the families of Jinju. Teach us to contemplate Jesus, to preserve His Word and to recognize the needs of those around us. It comforts the sick, brings together the generations and supports our work for the freedom, reconciliation and peace of all Korea. Amen.
