A documented Marian patronazgo

The directory of the Korean Episcopal Conference identifies Sex Mole, literally "Sacred Heart of Mary" or "Heart of Mary," as patron of the parish of Janghang. In Spanish, the expression is usually linked to devotion to Immaculate Heart of Mary.

The invocation has not been inferred from a statue or local custom: it is in the institutional record of the Korean Catholic Church.

Precision required: Janghang is not documented as a place of apparition of the Virgin or as a Marian sanctuary. It is a parish under the patronage of the Heart of Mary.

The heart that keeps the Word

The biblical language of the heart does not only mean feelings. Name the center of the person, where memory, freedom, intelligence and love are directed towards God.

Saint Luke presents Mary by preserving and meditating in her heart what lives next to Jesus. This attitude makes the Heart of Mary a school of contemplation: to receive the facts without appropriating them, to seek their meaning before God and to respond faithfully.

A heart crossed and faithful

Simeon's prophecy announces that a sword will pass through Mary's soul. His heart is not left outside of Christ's suffering or the pain of the world.

The mature Marian devotion does not seek an isolated intimacy. It teaches to stand by the cross, recognize the suffering of others and transform it, where possible, through comfort, justice and service.

El origen de Janghang

The local Catholic community was born in 1936 as a missionary station. The transformation of Janghang explains its apparition: the railway line, the opening of the port and the foundry complex attracted population and accelerated urbanization.

The Church saw the need to accompany that growing core. The small community was initially dependent on the parish of Seocheon and was the germ of a stable Catholic presence in the southern end of the county.

A house turned into a chapel

In 1941 the priest of Seocheon, Kim Yeong@-@ sik, acquired a land in Seongju@-@ ri. The house in it was repaired to serve as a place of worship.

This domestic beginning recalls many Korean foundations: before the temple there was an adapted house, and before a complete structure there were people who gathered time, resources and prayer.

Two dates for parish elevation

The local cultural encyclopedia includes in its chronology the 15 December 1943 as the date of the elevation of the missionary station to the parish. In the narrative development of the same article, however, the 15 December 1941.

This page retains the discrepancy rather than hide it. Both dates come from an institutional source that cites the parish history and diocesan statistics; an additional archival investigation must determine whether one corresponds to the decision and another to its application, or whether it is a transcription error.

Documentary criteria: where the sources do not allow a difference to be resolved, the two versions are indicated and no security is made.

Traslado a Changseon-ri

On September 26, 1947, the parish moved from Seongju@-@ ri to the current site of Changseon@-@ ri. There a brick church was finished and his blessing was celebrated.

The transfer placed the temple in the urban fabric it still occupies. The modern direction is 24 Jangseo-ro 53beon@-@ gil, although cadastral and ancient records can identify the plot as Changseon 2-ri 236-2 or nearby numbers.

Successive Temples for a Changing Community

The 1947 brick building was replaced in 1973 by a church of cement blocks. In 1990 the parish group we know today was again raised.

The solemn blessing of the new temple was presided over on 17 November 1996 by Bishop Joseph Kyeong Kap-ryong, then Bishop of Daejeon. The different dates distinguish construction, completion of spaces and liturgical dedication.

Architecture for veneration and training

The current set is a three-storey reinforced concrete construction and about 3,344 square meters of total surface. It integrates the church, catechesis rooms, priestly residence and community units.

It's not just an architectural container. Its organization reflects a mission that unites liturgy, training, administration and daily meeting.

The educational service

In 1959 the parish opened the Bokja kindergarten. It worked until 1984 and left an important educational memory for many Janghang families.

Decades later, his recovery was driven. Following the authorization obtained in 2007, Haeseong public day care was opened in 2008 within the parish area.

A public work with a religious presence

The Haeseong day care centre has six classrooms and institutional capacity for dozens of children. Although of public ownership, her leadership has been entrusted to a religious sent by the Korean Martyrs' Sisters.

Cooperation must always respect freedom of conscience, civil law, child protection and equal treatment. When it does, it allows a tradition of service to be made available to the entire population.

A parish that ages with its people

The statistics of 2022 included 336 households and 732 Catholics in the parish territory. The jurisdiction includes Janghang-eup and all Maseo-myeon.

The believing population, such as in many non-metropolitan areas of Korea, accuses the ageing and departure of young people. This reality changes schedules, accessibility, catechesis and forms of accompaniment.

The Heart of Mary before solitude

A community dedicated to the Heart of Mary is especially called to warn of the loneliness that makes no noise: older isolated people, sick people, exhausted caregivers and homes weakened by labour migration.

Visiting, listening, facilitating transport and coordinating professional help can be concrete forms of Marian spirituality that is not left in words.

Report of industrial work

Janghang grew around the railway, the port and the foundry. This development produced employment and movement, but also labour risks, environmental changes and dependence on industrial cycles.

The parish has gone through the same decades as the workers and their families. Their history can be read along with the dignity of work, the duel for accidents and the responsibility to care for creation.

Next to the Geum estuary

The town is located near the mouth of the Geum River and opposite Gunsan. The water landscape, marshes, port facilities and old industrial areas are part of their identity.

The Heart of Mary invites you to view this environment not as an unlimited resource, but as a shared house that must be transmitted clean and habitable.

Mary and the Church in Korea

The Korean Church was solemnly entrusted to the Immaculate Virgin in the 19th century. The patronage of Janghang is inserted into this broad Marian memory, also marked by martyrs and by lay communities capable of sustaining the faith.

The Heart of Mary does not replace Christ. He leads to him: he welcomes his Word, joins his dedication and teaches the Church to live with a heart available.

Relationship with Fatima

The apparitions of Fatima helped to extend during the twentieth century devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Prayer, conversion, penance and peace are some of their best known accents.

However, no evidence has been found that Janghang is a replica of Fatima or that his patronage depends on a local apparition. The relationship is spiritual and ecclesial, not geographical.

Consecrated is not evading

To trust Mary's Heart means to ask for a life similar to her: open to God, attentive to the humble and firm in the trials.

An authentic consecration is recognized by its fruits: deeper prayer, reconciliation, responsible service and greater fidelity to the Gospel.

Location checked for map

The official cultural source places the church in 24 Jangseo@@. The mapping of OpenStreetMap identifies the religious building in 36.01313, 126.69700.

The point is the parish area and the Haeseong day care centre. It has not been placed in the current railway station of Janghang, located several kilometres north-east, nor in the old Seongju@-@ ri.

Caution with toponyms and limits

Janghang belongs administratively to Seocheon County, South Chungcheong Province. The proximity to Gunsan, on the other side of the river and in Jeolla del Norte, causes some commercial directories to mistakenly associate it with that city.

For the map, postal address, historical plot and geometry of the building have been prioritized, avoiding the simple center of the municipality.

Para visitr with reject

It's a living parish, not a tourist attraction. Mass and opening hours should be checked in the diocesan directory or directly with the community, because they may vary.

During the celebrations it is appropriate to remain silent, avoid photographs of minors and ask for permission before documenting activities. A visit may include a dozen of the Rosary by the workers, families and elders of the region.

A prayer proposal

In the face of the advocation of the Heart of Mary, the joyful mysteries can be especially seen: the listening to the Annunciation, the service of the Visitation, the poverty of Bethlehem, the offering in the temple and the patient search of Jesus.

The fifth painful mystery can also be meditated on with those who carry labor, family or environmental suffering, asking for the grace to remain and help.

Prayer to the Heart of Mary of Janghang

Mary, Mother of an attentive heart, keeps the parish of Janghang and the families of Seocheon. He welcomes those who work by the port, accompanies the elderly and protects the children. Teach us to preserve the Word, to discern with humility and to remain with the suffering. May our heart, united with yours, always lead to Jesus Christ and become available to serve. Amen.
