A confirmed patronage
The Episcopal Conference of Korea records Samgakji as a parish of the Archdiocese of Seoul and slogan "Por" ("The Heart of Mary") as patronage. The official file also confirms the current address.
The Korean Catholic Encyclopedia provides a detailed history and renotes the same patronage. The coincidence makes it possible to safely identify the community.
Two foundational dates preserved
The current episcopal directory offers the 25 December 1948. The historical encyclopedia places the formal erection of Sin-Yongsan in March 1949.
This page does not force an artificial agreement. One date may correspond to the canon or community start and another to the effective appointment and organization, but the sources consulted do not explain the gap. Both are presented with their origin.
The prayer began in a house
By 1947, Catholics in the area had to travel to Jungnim-dong to attend Mass. After seeking pastoral attention, they began to celebrate on Sundays in the house of a faithful of Hanang-ro 2-ga.
The community organized a committee to promote the parish. This domestic root recalls that a Church can begin with hospitality, perseverance and a shared table.
Faithful from the north
The historical source indicates that the number of faithful and catechuless increased with people who had fallen from North Korea. His presence is part of the initial identity of the parish.

The Wound of the Korean War
Shortly after the arrival of the second parish priest, war broke out. For approximately three years the parish was left without a resident priest and its faithful went to Jungnim-dong or Myeongdong.

De Sin-Yongsan a Sakji
The parish was initially called Sin-Yongsan. By 1960 it adopted the name Samgakji, with which it appears today in the episcopal directory.

The Temple of 1971
After using a temporary wooden building since 1968, the community began work on 11 April 1971. The whole church, priestly house and convent was completed and dedicated to the 29 November 1971.
The material architecture testifies to a recovery after difficult decades, but the true heritage also includes the memory of those who held the community.
