En Dold, one of the main settlements of the volcanic island of Ulleungdo, a parish is dedicated to the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary. Since 1960, this island community has maintained a stable Catholic presence in the middle of the East Sea.

The Episcopal Conference of Korea records as the patron of Dodong a Unbelievable Saint Mary"The Virgin Mary conceived without original sin." It also confirms the foundation, direction and membership of the Archdiocese of Daegu.
The source documents a parish advocation. It does not attribute a Marian apparition to Ulleungdo, nor does it present the temple as a sanctuary; this fact sheet carefully retains that difference.
Una parroquia insular desde 1960
The community was erected 17 March 1960. The episcopal directory documents the collaboration of the Servants of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
The island situation conditions daily life: sea movements, changing weather and distance from the large centres. Maintaining a parish in this environment is a pastoral fidelity of its own.
What the Immaculate Conception means
The doctrine does not refer to the virginal conception of Jesus. She claims that Mary, from the first moment of her own conception, was preserved from original sin by a unique grace of God, in attention to the merits of Jesus Christ.
