Roots before the parish
The history published on the occasion of the fortieth anniversary places the origin of the community in the Sambang mission, which began in 1911. For decades, the faithful maintained the Catholic presence before having a fully constituted parish.
In 1959 Gimhae was raised to parish. Since then it has become a parent community for the Catholic growth of the city; several later parishes were born when its territory was divided.
The temple raised by the faithful
The current parish building was built in stages. The lower floor was completed in August 1981 and served community life while gathering forces to complete the church.
In May 1984 the works of the higher level began and the new temple was consecrated on November 18 by Bishop Gabriel Lee Gab@-@ sou. The contributions of the faithful themselves maintained the cost of that phase.
What the Immaculate Conception means
The advocation states that Mary, from the first moment of her conception, was preserved from original sin by a unique grace of God, in attention to the merits of Jesus Christ.
It should not be confused with the virginal conception of Jesus. The Immaculate Conception refers to the beginning of Mary's life and proclaims the primacy of grace: everything in it is received gift and free response to the divine project.
A community in a transformed city
Gimhae moved from a largely rural environment to an extensive urban and industrial area near Busan. The parish accompanied this change and for years it was the main Catholic point of reference for a growing population.
A 1982 chronicle describes the faithful working together to care for gardens, banks and a Marian grotto, seeking to make the enclosure also a place of rest for the neighbors. The beauty of space was understood as a form of reception.
The grace that becomes service
Contemplating Mary Immaculate does not invite her to separate from the city, but to live in it with a reconciled heart. The grace received free of charge becomes service, community care and attention to those who come from other places.
The diocese is currently celebrating masses for foreign communities in Gimhae. This reality recalls that Mary's motherhood knows no ethnic borders and that the parish is called to gather different languages and paths in one faith.
verified location for the map
The diocese of Busan publishes the address of 482 Hogyero and the parish phone. Both match the chart of the temple in 35.2334067, 128.8850697.
The score corresponds to the historical parish of Gimhae, not to other more recent churches in the same city, such as Yeonji or Imho.
To visit and pray
It's an active parish. It is appropriate to consult the updated hours of the diocese and to respect the development of the celebrations.
Luke 1, 26-38, the Magnificat and the joyful mysteries can be prayed, entrusting the migrant communities, those who work in the industry and families who have maintained the local faith for generations.
Prayer to the Immaculate Conception of Gimhae
Mary Immaculate, patron of Gimhae, accompanies this community born of a small mission and grown up with the work of its faithful. Gather those who come from different peoples and languages, purify our hearts and teach us to turn grace received into welcome, service and fidelity to Jesus Christ. Amen.
