Marian devotion
In Guro, one of the territories linked to the industrialization of Seoul, the parish of Guro 2-dong is dedicated to the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary. The Immaculate Conception in Guro
The episcopal directory records as patronage Unbelievers of the Unbelievers of Mary, complete liturgical expression for the original sin-free conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
This mystery does not refer to the virginal conception of Jesus Christ. She claims that Mary, from the first moment of her own conception, was preserved from original sin by a unique grace of God and in attention to the merits of Christ.
From a domestic meeting to a parish
After the Korean war, a small group of Catholics from the Guro 2-dong area began to meet in the house of a faithful named Esteban An. Urban development and population growth led to the growth of the first community.
Catholics were to travel to Guro-dong or Dorim@-@ dong for Mass. A local movement promoted the creation of a parish of its own, officially erected on 2 December 1969.
A church raised by the faithful
During the celebration of the fiftieth anniversary, in 2019, the Archbishop of Seoul recalled that the parishioners themselves carried the bricks and built the temple without dependent on other people's help.
The image of these bricks retains a concrete memory of community sacrifice. The building was born not as an anonymous project, but of the shared work of people who needed a place close to the Eucharist and parish life.
Mother parish of nueva communities
With the growth of the area, Guro 2-dong contributed to the birth of other parishes: Guro 1-dong in 1993 and Sindorim-dong in 2002. This expansion shows how a local community can in turn become the origin of others.
Working Pastoral and Social Service
Guro was for decades a great factory territory. The chronicle of the fiftieth anniversary highlights that the parish advanced in the pastoral of workers and tried to translate faith into love and mercy towards the neighborhood.
This social dimension harmonizes with the Immaculate Conception: the grace received by Mary does not put it in itself, but provides it entirely for God and for service. Marian devotion loses its meaning if it does not lead to respect for the dignity of those who work and suffer.
Fifty years under the eyes of Mary
The Mass of the fiftieth anniversary was held on December 8, 2019, solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, presided over by Cardinal Andrew Yeom Soo- jung and accompanied by about a thousand people.
The community then reviewed its history and future needs, including the preparation of a new temple. The sources consulted document this project, but it is not used here to affirm a later termination that has not been verified.

The marker is located in Guro-gu, south-west of the centre of Seoul. It should not be confused with the cathedral of Myeongdong, which shares the title of the Immaculate Conception.

It's an active urban parish. It is appropriate to consult up-to-date hours, respect the celebrations and remember that the temple serves its community daily.
Prayer may include Luke 1, 26-38, the Magnificat and the joyful mysteries. It can also be offered by workers, unemployed persons and those who support their family in difficult conditions.
