Episcopally documented patronage
The directory of the Episcopal Conference of Korea records as a patron Unbelievable Saint Mary, "the Virgin Mary without original sin." It is a Korean formulation of the Immaculate Conception.
The title has not been inferred from a local image or association: it appears expressly in the ecclesial record of the parish.
What the Immaculate Conception Proclaims
The Catholic doctrine states that Mary was preserved from original sin from the first moment of her conception by a unique grace of God, in attention to the merits of Jesus Christ.
It does not refer to the virginal conception of Jesus. It speaks of the beginning of Mary's own life and proclaims that the salvation of Christ acts in it in a preventive and entirely free manner.
Grace is gift, not privilege isolated
Mary does not receive the grace to depart from humanity. His fullness of grace sets him up to welcome the Son, set himself on the way to serve Elizabeth and remain with those who need comfort.
A parish under this title is called to recognize that all good comes from God and to translate gratitude into service, reconciliation and care of the most vulnerable.
Birth in an expanding urban area
Wolseong was born in 1992 to attend an area of Dalseo-gu marked by the growth of houses and apartment sets. The creation of a nearby community made it possible to organize the Eucharist, the catechesis and the fraternal life of the neighborhood.
The journalistic source of the dedication places the erection on June 27, 1992, while the episcopal directory declares on July 10. Both match in the year and seem to reflect two next administrative milestones.
The project of a church of its own
The community was soon organized to raise the temple. In April 1994 it formed the construction committee and in February 1995 it welcomed the formal start of the works.
The building was completed on 20 January 1996 and was dedicated on 1 March by Archbishop Paul Ri Moun-hi, accompanied by the auxiliary bishop and the presbytery.
A sustained work among all
According to the 1996 chronicle, the funding came from economic commitments of the faithful themselves, markets and support from other parishes in the third district of the archdiocese.
This cooperation makes it impossible to reduce history to an economic figure: the church was born from a shared responsibility within and outside Wolseong.
More than two million mysteries
The parish prepared a specific prayer for the new church and proposed to offer five hundred thousand mysteries of the Rosary. The response far exceeded the goal and reached 2.2 million mysteries.
The figure expresses Community perseverance, not a purchase of divine favors. The Rosary accompanies the material work by contemplating with Mary the life of Christ and turning the effort into an offering.
The temple dedicated in 1996
The new church rose on a ground of about 1,700 pyeng and reached approximately 1,412 pyeng built. It had a basement and four floors.
The chronicle distributes its spaces between parking, catechesis classrooms, chapel, offices, rooms of the Legion of Mary, large church, choir and priestly residence. An attached building was adapted for religious community and living room.
Faith and culture in an apartment district
In 2000, Wolseong was prominent for offering concerts, theatre and conferences at different liturgical times and seasons of the year. The initiative sought to bring culture and coexistence closer to an urban population.
Cultural openness did not replace the liturgy. It showed that the parish complex could also be a place of encounter, beauty and training for people subject to the rhythm of the great city.
Families and the transmission of faith
A 2023 chronicle documents the creation of a group of parents that accompanies catechesis children through games. The initiative increased from seven to twenty-two members in three months.
The parents prepared activities related to the liturgy and collaborated in parish life. This concrete experience unites game, paternal presence, community and transmission of faith.
A community that continues to live
The Archdiocese documents confirmation celebrations in Wolseong and contemporary pastoral activities. It is not, therefore, a dedication that is kept only in files.
Those responsible, phones and schedules can change. For a visit, see the episcopal directory or the parish, without converting the data of a specific date into permanent information.
verified location for the map
The Episcopal Conference places the temple in 54 Haksan-ro, Wolseong-dong, Dalseo-gu. The mapping of OpenStreetMap identifies the Catholic church of Wolseong there as a cult building in 35.82995, 128.53469.
The marker coincides with the ecclesial enclosure and with close references such as the Dalseo-gu office. The generic center of the neighborhood and a Protestant church of similar name have not been used.
To visit and pray
Wolseong is an active urban parish. It is appropriate to confirm the hours, respect the celebrations and ask for permission before photographing people, especially minors.
One ten can be prayed for families, one for those who build community and one for children. On December 8, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception offers a particularly appropriate liturgical framework.
Prayer to the Immaculate Conception of Wolseong
Mary Immaculate, patron of Wolseong, accompanies the community that raised her church with prayer and shared effort. Save the families of Daegu, strengthen those who educate in faith and teach us to receive grace as a gift that becomes service. Take us always to Jesus Christ, the source of all salvation. Amen.
