From a four-room house to a parish
The diocesan story reports that Father Andrew Yu Heung@-@ mo, then responsible for Hapcheon, especially attended to the Catholics of Geochang. In 1935 it facilitated the purchase of a traditional house with straw roof and four rooms to establish the mission of Jungdong.
The evangelizing growth led to the parish in 1940. Matthias Park Dong-jun, from Hapcheon, was appointed first parish priest.
A foundation in colonial time
The diocese highlights the difficulties that accompanied the foundation under Japanese colonial rule. The first priest obtained diocesan help to acquire the current land and raise the church; he also used family help to build the priestly house.
