A rural parish since 1977
The official Korean directory records the foundation of Namji in late 1977 and its Marian patronage. The community serves a population spread between the town of Namji and the Bugok mission.
The diocesan chronicle describes a parish of modest dimensions, where the closeness between the priest, the religious and the faithful is an essential part of daily life.
Changes in name and territory
In 2000, he became a missionary parish of Nadji and coordinated three small communities: Nadji, Yeongsan and Bugok. The territorial organization then changed again.
Since 2019 Yeongsan has ceased to rely on Nadji and Bugok as a mission attended by the parish. This evolution explains why different sources may present different figures or pastoral structures.
The Heart of Mary
In biblical language, the heart is the center of the person: memory, will, affections and decisions. To contemplate the Heart of Mary is to contemplate his listening to the Word, his availability and the compassion with which he remained with Christ.
The adjective "immaculate" expresses an entirely open life to grace. It does not propose an isolated sensitivity of the world, but a heart capable of keeping the word of God and responding to the specific needs of others.
An image by the altar
The pastoral visit published by the diocese points out that, on the left of the altar, an image allows the faithful to honor the Heart of Mary. The patronage is thus visible within the liturgical space.
During the month of May, the garden and Marian devotion acquire a special relief. The community interprets Mary's tenderness as a stimulus to walk to the Lord and care for those who might be isolated.
A Vietnamese community
In 2025 the diocese established its seventh Vietnamese Catholic community in Nadji. Migrants maintain sacramental practice and prayer amid differences in language, culture and working conditions.
This reality is a very concrete extension of Mary's spiritual motherhood. The parish not only retains an apvocation: it tries to offer an ecclesial home to those who have left their own.
