Marian devotion
In Oryu-dong, within the new district of Geomdan in Incheon, a small parish is dedicated to Immaculate Heart of Mary. The community began as a rural station, was raised to parish in 1997 and dedicated its present temple in 2014.

A confirmed patronage
The Bishops' Conference of Korea Unbelievable Holy Spirit, Immaculate Heart of Mary, as patronage of the parish. Good News Catholic and Love Catholic corroborate identity, direction and founding date.
There is no local Marian apparition. This is a parochial dedication focused on the inner life and faith of the Mother of Jesus.
What the heart means in the Bible
In Scripture, the heart is the center of the person: there he remembers, he discerns, loves and decides. To speak of the Heart of Mary is not limited to her emotions.
The advocation contemplates its unified interiority by grace, open to the Word and oriented towards Jesus Christ.
Immaculate doesn't mean distant
The expression "immaculate" recognizes the free action of God in Mary. It does not make her an alien to questions, pain or human decisions.
She listens to the announcement, asks, freely consents, gets on the way and remains by the cross.
Save and meditate
Luke presents Mary by preserving events and meditating on them in her heart. Believing memory does not eliminate the difficult: it returns to it before God.
John Paul II related the Heart of Mary to her faith, her maternal love and her union with the redeeming mystery of Christ.
A heart that serves
After the Annunciation, Mary visits Isabel. The authentic interior does not enclose; it discovers a need and acts.
A parish under this patronage unites prayer, listens to patient, visits to the sick and helps respect dignity.
The station of Oryu-ri
The historical information published by Catholic Times states that the community was constituted as a station dependent on Gimpo 5 March 1966.
For more than three decades the local faith matured before it acquired parish rank. This time deserves to be remembered as a substantial part of his history.
Parish since 1997
Oryu-dong was raised to parish 18 February 1997. The episcopal directory maintains that date as an official foundation.
The continuity between the station and the parish shows that a community does not begin only when it receives administrative recognition.
The temple dedicated in 2014
The work of the current building began on 13 June 2013 and lasted approximately one year. Bishop Boniface Choi Ki- san presided over the dedication 28 September 2014.
The set occupies a land of 1,983.6 square meters. The church has basement and three floors, with chapel, classrooms, religious shop, kitchen, large ship for 360 people and choir.
A house of prayer and comfort
In dedication, the bishop thanked the effort of priest and faithful and recalled that the temple should be a place to receive comfort, pray and proclaim the Gospel to the neighborhood.
The building carries out its mission when it welcomes the real life of people, not only when it retains its architecture.
A small community
The current directory records 426 faithful, a priest and no dependent station. The reduced scale can facilitate mutual knowledge, but also requires careful sharing of responsibilities.

Geomdan in transformation
The territory has changed with new housing, infrastructure and administrative reorganization. Since August 2026 the diocese has been part of the parish in the pastoral district of Geomdan, following the new urban division.
The community can host new neighbours without losing the rural memory of the station that preceded it.
The heart and the listen
In rapidly growing neighborhoods, many people can feel anonymous. Listening carefully is a first work of mercy.
Christian listening does not replace professional help: in the face of depression, abuse, disease or danger, it must provide competent care and protection.
Consecration well understood
Consecrated to the Heart of Mary means trusting to her intercession and learning her availability to God. It is not to give another person control of one's own consciousness.
The prayer of consecration of Pope Francis in 2022 unites this trust with supplication for peace, mercy and the end of war.
A heart through pain
Simeon announces that a sword will pass through Mary's soul. She does not deny suffering or abandon her Son.
His compassion invites him to remain with the suffering, avoiding easy explanations and acting so that violence does not continue.
For families and workers
Urban growth brings opportunities, long displacements, job uncertainty and changes in family life. The community can build support links.
The Heart of Mary inspires attention that perceives tiredness, solitude and needs that are not always expressed.
For the peace of Korea
From Incheon, the western gate of the peninsula, you can pray for those who live apart and for reconciliation that preserves freedom and justice.
Keeping memory in the heart does not mean hiding damage: it requires listening to the victims and working so that they do not repeat themselves.
