The antigua imagen de la estrella
For centuries, sailors have looked at the stars to keep the course. Christian tradition applies that image to Mary because her life points to Jesus.
A star does not replace fate or move the ship. It offers guidance; the person must discern, act and persevere.
Mary leads to Christ
St. John Paul II recalled that Stella Maris It's an old and loved title. Mary accompanies the path, but Christ is the port and salvation.
In Cana, she discovers a need and directs the servants to the word of her Son. There is a christocentric devotion.
19th century roots
The exact date of arrival of Catholicism to Osman is not known. The historical sources place faithful in the region towards the foundation of the parish of Gatdeungi in 1888.
Between 1895 and 1896 a station was formed in Beoreum-ri, and shortly after that in Segyo-ri. The diocese takes on the tradition of a catechist woman who helped to begin the faith of Seo Seong-ik Peter and his family.
Communities sown by laymen
The faithful grew around the stations of Beoreum-ri and Jandari. The transmission was dependent on families, local leaders and people who traveled villages to share the faith.
This memory recognizes that history does not belong only to priests and buildings. The laity prepared for decades the future parish.
The station of Osan-ri
In 1955, the Osan-ri station was established. The town grew as a transport centre and, after the Korean war, by the air base and the installation of factories.
As the population increased, pastoral care went first through Balan and then through Seojeong-dong.
Foundation in 1964
The diocese erected the parish of Osman the 2 July 1964 and appointed Father Lawrence Lee Jong@-@ sun as the first priest.
Seo Sang-gil Hubert, the first parish president, donated a land of 526 pyeng in Osan@-@ ri. There, church and priestly residence were built in November 1964.
Star of the Sea since 1965
The first temple was dedicated in May 1965 and then "Estrella del Mar" was adopted as a parish patronage.
The election accompanied a community between displacements, new industries and rapid social changes.
Growth and new parishes
The Catholic population grew especially since the 1980s: it exceeded two thousand faithful in 1984, three thousand in 1988 and four thousand in 1991.
Osman then helped the birth of other parishes, including Galgot- dong and Eungye- dong, to attend expanding urban areas.
The long way to the present temple
In December 1990, some 1,500 land was acquired pyeng in Cheonghak-dong. The work began in May 1992.
After project changes and the bankruptcy of a construction company, the construction moved forward in stages: chapel in 1993, priestly and religious residences, and complete completion in December 1998.
Dedicación en 2001
The final authorization came on 1 September 2001 and the dedication of the temple was celebrated. The current address, 727 Gajang-ro, corresponds to the same historical plot identified as Cheonghak-dong 73-10.
The modern road form should not be interpreted as a recent transfer.
Communication and training
In 1999, the parish opened a local Catholic station with the objectives of evangelization and continuous formation. He also developed an Internet presence and prayer campaigns.
The media serve faith when they truly report, respect privacy and facilitate encounter, not when they replace the real community.
The current community
The episcopal directory records 3,574 faithful, two priests, the presence of the Sisters of Notre Dame and no dependent station. Osman is also a central parish of the pastoral district.
These are data subject to update. The published phone is 031-374-4010; it is appropriate to confirm hours before you go.
Guide for those who work and travel
Osman continues to be linked to transport, industry and labour movements. The Star of the Sea can accompany those who work on shifts, drive or live away from their family.
Prayer does not replace rest, work safety or road prudence; it supports and demands them.
A look at sailors and migrants
El apostolado Stella Maris of the Church accompanies people of the sea and their families. Even if Oman is inner, he can join that universal intercession.
Pope Francis has asked to recognize the sacrifices of sailors, fishermen and workers who spend long periods away from home.
Guidance without control
Mary guides by her example and intercession, not by nullifying consciousness. Important decisions require freedom, information, prayer and competent advice.
A Marian community must avoid spiritual pressure and especially accompany those who are vulnerable.
For the peace of Korea
The historical closeness of military facilities recalls the fragility of peace. They can pray for those who serve without forgetting exposed civilians and separate families.
Mary, Estrella del Mar, invites us to continue towards reconciliation based on truth, justice, freedom and human dignity.

Prayer to Mary, Star of the Sea, from Osman
Mary, Star of the Sea, guide the parish of Osman to your Son. Save those who work, travel and live far from their family; protect sailors and migrants; bless those who passed on the faith from the old seasons. When the road is uncertain, give us prudence, freedom and hope. Keep all Korea oriented towards truth, reconciliation and peace. Amen.
