Marian devotion
In Seosin-myeon, a rural area of Hwaseong open towards the western coast of Korea, the Catholic parish is dedicated to Maria Estrella del Mar. Born in 1995 and equipped with a new temple in 2011, the community unites the marine symbol of orientation with the perseverance of families in the countryside.

A officially confirmed employer
The Episcopal Conference of Korea records Maria Estrella del Mar as the patron of Seosin. The directory confirms the direction, date of foundation and its membership in the diocese of Suwon.
The diocesan chronicle of the consecration of the temple also speaks of the Virgin as patron of the parish and recounts the persevering prayer of the community.
Separada de Sagan en 1995
Seosin was formed when he separated from the parish of Sagang. The episcopal directory sets the official date on the 20 January 1995.
The diocese recalls that the new community began with 320 homes and 952 faithful. Fifteen years later, there were 351 households and 1,014 faithful, a significant continuity in an aged rural territory.
A difficult construction
The 2011 chronicle explains that the agricultural condition of the land made the authorizations complex and that the community also faced economic difficulties.
The bishop highlighted the prayer to the patron Virgin, the work of the priests and the unity of the faithful. The history of the building is not presented as economic success, but as a fruit of patience and cooperation.
The temple consecrated in 2011
The dedication took place 2 October 2011, chaired by Bishop Mathias Lee Yong-hoon. The parish had been waiting for a final temple for about 15 years.
The set was raised on a plot of 1,931 m ². The building, of 666.42 m ², has a basement and two floors for veneration, catechesis, meetings and community services.
A church between rice and vineyards
The diocese described the celebration surrounded by mature rice and vineyards. He used the evangelical image of the vine and the branches to express communion with Christ.
This documented landscape helps to understand Seosin's rural character. It does not make the parish a picturesque attraction: it is the place where a particular community lives and transmits its faith.
The sense of Stella Maris
"Estrella del Mar" is an ancient Marian title. As the star who helps keep the course during a journey, Mary guides the disciple to Jesus Christ.
She's not fate or an independent light. It receives the light of God and helps to recognize the way of the Gospel in the midst of darkness.

Seosin- myeon extends to the Yellow Sea and the western hens of Hwaseong. In this environment, the title Stella Maris acquires a natural geographical resonance.
However, the official source confirms a parish patronage, not an apparition related to the sea. The coastal proximity illuminates the symbol, but should not be used to invent a local tradition.
Prayer for those who work in the sea and in the field
The advocation invites us to remember fishermen, port workers and families who wait for those who sail. The agricultural character of the parish adds the prayer for farmers, crops and older people who remain in rural areas.
Both worlds depend on creation and bear uncertainties. Faith drives people and also the land and sea of those who live.
A family community
When the temple was consecrated, the secular responsible attributed the achievement to the constant prayer of the elders and to the family environment of collaboration.
