A date set by the official source
The current report of the Korean Episcopal Conference indicates March 25, 1952. A secondary guide consulted offers another date, but this page adopts the episcopal data because it is the primary institutional source and is updated.
March 25 coincides with the solemnity of the Annunciation, although the registered patron is Queen of Heaven. Without a foundational chronicle, the reason why that day was chosen should not be assumed.
Founded during the Korean War
In March 1952, the Korean war was still open. The date objectively places the parochial birth in a period of displacement, loss and enormous uncertainty.
The available sources do not describe the local circumstances of the foundation. That is why no concrete experiences are attributed to the community, although its historical framework can be affirmed.
Queen of Heaven
El coreano About Us expresses "heavenly Queen" or "Queen of Heaven." It is a different title from the largest "Queen of Heaven and Earth" used by the parish of Geoje.
The royalty of Mary depends entirely on Jesus Christ, King of the universe. It is a maternal, humble and servant royalty, according to the woman who declared herself a slave to the Lord.
La enseñanza de Ad caeli Reginam
Pius XII presented in 1954 the biblical and traditional roots of Mary's royalty and established her liturgical feast. The parish of Gyeongsan had been founded two years earlier, but the sources consulted do not allow to state when it formally adopted the title.
This caution avoids presenting as a historical fact a chronological relationship that is not demonstrated.
A central and urban parish
The directory assigns you entire neighborhoods of Gyeongsan and parts of other urban sectors. It records more than 3,000 faithful and no dependent missionary station; the figures may vary with the updates.
The direction coincides with the civilly identified building as the Catholic church of Gyeongsan.
