A patronazgo oficial
The directory of the Korean Episcopal Conference expressly identifies the Queen of the Martyrs as the patron of Juksan. It also records the date of establishment, direction and membership of the diocese of Suwon.
This is not a local Marian apparition. It is a parochial dedication that contemplates Mary by the cross and in communion with those who remained faithful to Christ until death.
Juksan and the memory of persecution
The Anseong region retains testimonies from persecuted Catholic communities, especially during the persecution of Byeongin initiated in 1866. Christians were arrested, interrogated and executed for maintaining a prohibited faith.
The present parish is not contemporary of those facts: it was established in 1983. His advocation creates a spiritual bridge with previous history and helps not to be reduced to a date or monument.
Mary at the foot of the cross
The Gospel presents Mary with the cross of Jesus. His permanence does not eliminate suffering, but he shows a fidelity that accompanies without running and receives an open motherhood to the disciples.
That is why the Church calls her Queen of the Martyrs. Mary did not suffer the martyrdom of blood, but she deeply shared the surrender of her Son and remains close to those who bear witness in the midst of the trial.
The Korean martyrs
Korean Catholicism has a unique history, initially driven by laity who studied Christian texts and formed communities before having a stable priestly presence. The faith was transmitted among families despite successive prohibitions.
St. John Paul II canonized 103 Korean martyrs in Seoul in 1984. Pope Francis beatified Paul Yun Ji-chung and 123 companions in 2014, stressing that his example interpels with a society that needs solidarity and respect for human dignity.
A queen who serves
The royalty of Mary is understood from that of Christ: it is not dominion, privilege, or worldly power. It is service, humility and participation in the victory of love over sin and death.
Honoring the Queen of Martyrs demands to reject religious violence and all instrumentalization of suffering. Christian martyrdom is never a search for death or aggression against the adversary; it is faithfulness without hatred.
The foundation in the Nativity of Mary
The official date, 8 September 1983, coincides with the feast of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary. This coincidence places the birth of the community under a Marian memory of hope.
A parish is born to celebrate the sacraments, transmit faith, care for the needy and build communion. His martyrdom recalls that this mission requires constancy, not heroic nostalgia.
Memory that heals, not that feeds hatred
Remembering persecution should not serve to promote resentment against current people or traditions. The Christian memory appoints injustice, honors the victims and seeks reconciliation based on truth.
Mary helps to sustain a maternal memory: she does not trivialize the pain or make the persecute the object of revenge. It calls for the protection of religious freedom and the conscience of all people today.
For those who suffer persecution
Invocation opens prayer to Christians and members of other religious communities who suffer violence, imprisonment, discrimination or expulsion. It also reminds those who are attacked for defending human dignity.
The aid must be prudent and concrete: accurate information, assistance to refugees, legal defence and accompaniment. Publishing sensitive data can put lives at risk; people's safety prevails over curiosity.
Peace on the Korean peninsula
Juksan can entrust the Queen of the Martyrs to reconciliation between North and South, separate families and communities whose history remains silent. Prayer calls for freedom and peace without forgetting those who suffer.
The fidelity of the martyrs teaches to resist the lie, but also to prevent the dehumanization of the contrary. True peace needs justice, patience and recognition of each person as a brother.
The Rosary of the Fortress
The Rosary contemplates Mary in the joyful, luminous, painful and glorious mysteries. In the painful, the community learns to remain with Christ; in the glorious, it proclaims that death does not have the last word.
They can pray for the victims of violence, the persecuted, those who must make difficult decisions and families who support their faith in silence.

Prayer to Mary, Queen of the Martyrs of Juksan
Mary, Queen of the Martyrs, you who stayed by the cross, guard the parish of Juksan. He receives the memory of those who gave life for Christ and teach us to honor them without hatred.
