The joy of a birth
The Church celebrates the birth of Mary as the aurora of salvation: from it will be born Jesus Christ, the light of the world. The feast does not separate the Mother from her Son, but rather it contemplates the humble beginning of the life prepared by God for the Incarnation.
The Korean name Sophia Lynn means "Nativity of the Holy Mother." In Neunggok, the coincidence between the liturgical feast and the parish foundation makes the date a true community identity.
From small mission station to parish
The official chronology places the immediate origin of the community at a mission station created on November 8, 1978. A chapel was blessed the following month and, during the following years, the faithful organized catechesis, baptisms and the preparation of their own temple.
The works began in August 1981. On 8 September 1982, the territory was separated from the parish of Susaek and Neunggok became the 106th parish of the archdiocese of Seoul. Since the creation of the diocese of Uijeongbu in 2004 it has been a member of this new jurisdiction.
A documented choice
On September 18, 1982, the first pastoral council was approved and the community decided that the Nativity of Mary would be her patronage. The election was also in the name of the parish ticket.
The parish website itself devotes a section to the patron and illustrates it with the painting of the Nativity of Mary attributed to Annibale Carracci. The Korean episcopal directory independently confirms the same title and the founding date.
A community that grew up with the city
The temple was completed in 1983 and its solemn dedication was held in September 1984, chaired by Cardinal Stephen Kim Sou@-@ hwan. With urban growth, new parishes subsequently emerged from its territory in Hwajeong and Haengsin.
History recorded the opening of a kindergarten in 1987, an educational centre, charitable care groups, national reconciliation initiatives and different spiritual support works. In 2022, a parish history was published on the occasion of the fortieth anniversary.
Mary, beginning of a life given
To celebrate the birth of Mary invites us to respect every life in its initial fragility and to trust in the silent work of God. Before the Annunciation, of Bethlehem and Calvary, there was a girl welcomed by a family and called to grow in the faith of Israel.
This spirituality harmonizes with a parish born of a small chapel and developed through the work of many families. What begins modestly can become home to entire generations by grace and perseverance.
Marian and sacramental life
The parish celebrates a Mass of Marian devotion on the first Saturday of each month. His history also preserves the foundation of the Nativity Curia of Mary of the Legion of Mary and of a first prasesidium under the title of Queen of the Most Holy Rosary.
These Marian expressions are integrated into the Eucharist, Confession, catechesis and care for the sick. Mary never retains the eyes of the faithful for herself: she educates them to listen to Christ and serve the brothers.
