Marian devotion
In an old step by the Nakdong River, the Catholic community of Sateol- Toegang is entrusted to Our Lady of the Assumption. The advocation announces the destiny of fullness to which God calls the human being, while the temple retains a unique memory of the Catholic faith in the north of Gyeongsang.

Sponsorship confirmed by the Korean Church
The Episcopal Conference of Korea records Sameol- Toegang within the Diocese of Andong and is the patron of the Assumption of Mary. The document also confirms the address and administrative date of 11 July 2003.
The heritage sources provide the previous history of the place. Both chronologies are compatible when it is distinguished between the beginning of the mission, the successive pastoral categories and the most recent erection.
A community born in 1903
The property documentation places the beginning in Mulmi's mission - another name associated with Toegang - in 1903. It was the first Catholic church in the Sangju area.
In 1922 he reached the parish level and served a wide territory in the north of Gyeongsang. In 1968 it was reorganized as a mission dependent on Hamchang and, in 2003, reappeared as a parish.
A chronology that requires precision
The episcopal directory offers July 11, 2003 as an erection date. The historical source mentions July 1 for the elevation of that year. This page retains the difference rather than hide it.
It is certain that the Catholic presence is much older and that 2003 corresponds to a new institutional stage, not to the absolute beginning of the community.
The temple of 1956
The current building was built in 1956. The provincial administration highlights its Gothic features in plant and flat and its importance in understanding regional Catholic history.

Provincial heritage since 2007
On May 7, 2007, the Toegang church was declared a Cultural Good of Gyeongsangbuk-do no. 520. The protection includes a set of two buildings.
The responsible visit prevents the deterioration of structures, furniture or liturgical spaces. A living temple is not just an object of architectural contemplation.
What the Assumption Proclaims
The Catholic faith confesses that Mary, at the end of her earthly life, was raised in body and soul to heavenly glory. Pius XII solemnly defined this doctrine in 1950.
It is not a capacity of Mary separate from God. It is the work of Christ's grace and the anticipation of the hope promised to the redeemed.
Dignity of the body
The Assumption prevents the reduction of salvation to an escape from the material world. The human body is called to glory and must be treated with respect from conception to natural death.
This hope commits to caring for the sick, the elderly, people with disabilities and those who see their bodies exploited or despised.
Hope that does not erase the duel
In the face of death, faith does not require pretending that there is no pain. Mary glorified shows that God's love has the last word, even if separation continues to hurt.
