Official patronage and public leadership

The Episcopal Conference of Korea records the Assumption of Mary as the patronage of Soseong and confirms the founding date, direction and membership of the military ordinariate.

The website of the ordinariato itself repeats the title and address. It also expressly reports on a Sunday Mass that can be attended by the civilian faithful, a fact that differentiates this temple from a reserved chapel.

Essential distinction: Soseong is a church under Marian patronage, not a place of apparitions. Its military character describes pastoral jurisdiction; the Assumption is a Christian feast of hope and not an exaltation of the armed force.

A community since 1980

The parish was founded 25 October 1980. The directory documents a community and four dependent chapels, but this page does not publish secondary locations or operational details.

The names of those responsible, times and entry conditions may change. They must be checked directly with the parish office before they go.

What celebrates the Assumption

The Church professes that Mary, at the end of her earthly life, was brought to heavenly glory in body and soul. The solemnity is celebrated August 15.

This faith does not make Mary a goddess nor does it claim that she would ascend by her own power. It is a work of God and a unique participation in the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Soul and body

Francis explains that the Assumption manifests the unity of the human person. Christian salvation does not despise the body or consider it a simple disposable object.

This vision requires respect for body integrity, health care, rejection of torture and protection of any vulnerable person.

Mary, first disciple

Mary's union with Christ began in the Annunciation and matured throughout her life. Francis presents her as the first disciple: he walked behind Jesus and shared his mystery with fidelity.

His glory is not separated from ordinary life. He prayed, took care of his house, lived within a community and remained by the cross.

A sign of hope

Benedict XVI presents Mary as the figure and the first of the Church to be glorified. His destiny announces the promised future to those who live in Christ.

Christian hope does not deny death or mourning. It allows them to be faced without claiming that destruction and violence have the last word.

An Atvocation in a Military Community

In a military ordinariate, the Assumption can remember that each human body retains dignity and that no obedience eliminates personal moral responsibility.

The Catholic pastoral service is accompanied by military and families, but Marian patronage does not legitimize specific wars or replace ethical discernment about the protection of civilians and the search for peace.

Service and protection

Mary's glory springs from her humble availability to God. His Magnificat proclaims the divine look on the little ones and questions the arrogant use of power.

The community can honor it by serving the wounded, veterans, families in absence, people with trauma and those who need professional and spiritual support.

Prayer for peace in Korea

The division of the peninsula gives special meaning to prayer for a just peace. It should include civilians, military, prisoners, separate families and those working in prevention and dialogue.

Praying for peace does not mean ignoring real threats. It means seeking protection without dehumanizing the adversary and keeping the possibility of reconciliation open.

Access: confirm before moving

The ordinariate publishes a Sunday Mass for the civilian faithful and a parish phone. Such information may change for pastoral or security reasons.

Responsible visit: call before you go, follow the access signs and not photo controls, personnel or sensitive facilities. The marker identifies only the church published by official sources.

verified location for the map

The two ecclesial sources coincide in 431 Munemio-ro. The nominal mapping of the temple 37.5102851, 126.6002462.

The point corresponds to the Soseong church in Gusan-dong and not to a generic center in Bupyeong or to any of its dependent chapels.

To visit and pray

With confirmed access, the fourth glorious mystery can be prayed for the dignity of the body, for those facing danger and for families waiting for their return.

There can also be a prayer for the reconciliation of Korea and a concrete commitment to accompany a family or person injured by violence.

Prayer to Our Lady of Soseong's Assumption

Our Lady of the Assumption keeps the community of Soseong, whom they serve and their families. Teach us to respect the dignity of every person in body and soul, to use responsibility to protect and never to humiliate. Hold those who live in danger, absence or invisible wounds. It intercede for the reconciliation of Korea and deliver us to the risen Jesus Christ, our hope and our peace. Amen.
