In Angang-eup, within the extensive municipality of Gyeongju, a Catholic parish is dedicated to Our Lady of Fatima. It was founded on May 13, 1967, exactly fifty years after the first apparition in Cova da Iria.

A clearly documented identity

The Episcopal Conference of Korea records Our Lady of Fatima as official patron of Angang. The date, the direction, the religious congregation and the pastoral territory appear on the same chart.

An updated Catholic directory and the parish community in Daum corroborate the existence of the church. This page corresponds to Angang, in Gyeongju, not to the city of Anyang near Seoul.

Documentary accuracy: the Daegu newsletter that announced in 2017 the fiftieth anniversary of Angang remains indexed, but its PDF is no longer available. The anniversary is also derived directly from official dates 1967-2017 and the broken link is not offered.

On 13 May 1967

The parish was founded on the same day and month when the Church recalls the first apparition of Fatima. In addition, 1967 was the fiftieth anniversary of the events of 1917.

The exact coincidence, together with patronage, makes it very reasonable to relate both facts. However, in the absence of a founding act explaining the election, it is presented as an obvious chronological relationship and not as a quote of a documentary intention.

A broad territorial community

The episcopal record assigns to the parish all Angang-eup and Gangdong-myeon. It is a territory that combines urban core, fields and scattered populations.

The directory records 1,590 faithful and no dependent station. These are administrative data subject to update, but they help to understand the scope of the community.

The message of Fatima

In 1917, Lucía dos Santos and his cousins Francisco and Jacinta Marto testified meetings with the Virgin in Cova da Iria. The spiritual core calls for conversion, prayer and reparation.

Devotion should not be reduced to curiosity for secrets or predictions. Orient Christ and ask for a reconciled life, attentive to our own sin and the suffering of the world.

The Rosary for Peace

The request to pray the Rosary goes through the testimony of Fatima. In every mystery, the repetition of the avemaria accompanies the contemplation of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus.

On the Korean peninsula, praying for peace includes those living on both sides of the border, separated families and those carrying memories of war.

Conversion before fear

Pope Francis recalled in Fatima that Mary is not a threatening figure. He is Mother and leads to the light of God who dwells and protects.

Christian conversion is born not from panic, but from recognizing the love received, abandoning evil, repairing harm and retrusting mercy.

Francisco y Jacinta

The two Marto brothers were canonized on May 13, 2017, during the centenary of the apparitions. His short life shows that holiness does not depend on age, power or academic formation.

Their prayer for others and their ability to offer the difficulties speak especially to children and families, always avoiding presenting the suffering sought as ideal.

Lucia and memory

Lucia lived for many years and kept the memory of events in writing. His trajectory recalls the responsibility to discern, obey and not turn a spiritual experience into a personal protagonism.

The Church examined the testimonies before authorizing the veneration. Prudence is part of a healthy Marian devotion.

The Sisters of Saint Paul of Chartres

The Episcopal Conference records the presence of this congregation in Angang..

Faith and local life

Angang retains a regular market that continues to function as a space for meeting and mutual care. The parish inhabits the same human context of neighbors, elders, merchants and families.

There is no institutional relationship with the market. The context helps to understand that prayer for peace begins also with an interest in the concrete life of others.

verified location for the map

The episcopal direction is 112 Bahwawon-ro,ang-eup. Nominal mapping places the temple in 35.9919609, 129.2201329, consistent with address and phone.

The marker corresponds to the parish church of Angang, not to the centre of the municipality of Gyeongju or to another institution with the same name.

To visit and pray

The parish appears active and maintains an online community, but the schedules may vary. It is appropriate to confirm directly before moving.

The visit can be offered for peace, farmers, traders, children and the elderly of the territory. The Rosary can conclude with a concrete decision of reconciliation.

Prayer to Our Lady of Fatima of Angang

Our Lady of Fatima, keeps the parish of Angang and the families of Gyeongju. Teach us to pray faithfully, to convert the heart and to work for peace. It protects children, accompanies older people and reconciles divided peoples. Always lead us to Jesus Christ. Amen.
