En Dongmyye-nd, by the East Sea and near the northern end of South Korea, a parish of Sokcho is dedicated to Our Lady of Fatima. Founded in 1953, his prayer for conversion and peace takes on a particularly deep resonance.

An officially confirmed advocation
The Episcopal Conference of Korea records MatureOur Lady of Fatima, as patron of Dongmyeong-dong. It also confirms the diocese, the direction and the date of foundation.
The document documents a parochial dedication. It does not claim that an apparition has occurred in Sokcho; the events originating from the advocation belong to Fatima, Portugal.
A date marked by the post-war
The parish was erected August 15, 1953, a few weeks after the armistice that stopped the major fighting of the Korean war. The source does not explain whether the date choice responded directly to that event and therefore a causal relationship should not be affirmed.
Historical coincidence, however, allows us to understand the human environment of its beginnings: displacement, mourning, family separation and the need for reconstruction.
On August 15
The date also coincides with the solemnity of the Assumption and with Gwangbokjeolon the day of the liberation of Korea. Although the parish patron is Fatima, the foundation thus brings together several religious and national memories.
The freedom held on that day calls for the creation of service, justice and protection of the dignity of all.
From Portugal to Sokcho
The Shrine of Fatima places the apparitions of 1917 in Cova da Iria to Lucía dos Santos, Francisco Marto and Jacinta Marto. After a process of discernment, the Church declared the visions credible.
The expansion of the advocation led his spiritual call to communities from other continents. In Sokcho, this devotion is received without geographically moving the apparitions.
Rosary, conversion and peace
The Rosary occupies a central place in Fatima because it contemplates Jesus Christ with Mary. Conversion is not about deciphering future events, but about returning to God and transforming one's own life.
The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith recalled that private revelations do not complete the Gospel. His function is to help him live in specific historical circumstances.
Near a wounded border
The northern location of Sokcho makes the memory of the division particularly close. Many family stories in the region are through displacements and separations.
To pray for peace means to entrust those who live on both sides, to reject dehumanization and to support the ways of meeting that respect truth and justice.
Sea, work and hope
In a coastal city, the parish can put fishermen, sailors, port workers and families waiting for their return under Mary's protection.
Prayer does not replace work safety or sea care. It must promote prevention, solidarity with accidents and the protection of an environment on which many lives depend.
A Mother who does not infuse fear
Pope Francis presented Mary in Fatima as a mother who leads to hope in Christ, not as a figure used to threaten believers.
True devotion arouses trust, mercy and responsibility. It does not feed alarm or speculation about dates and disasters.
verified location for the map
The official address is 10-5 Yengng-ro 7-gil. The chart of the temple places Dongmyeong-dong in 38.2130573, 128.595325.
The isolated geocoding of the direction offered a close but different point. The final marker uses the location associated with the exact name of the church.
To visit and pray
The Rosary can be prayed for separate families, displaced persons, sea workers and Korean reconciliation. The hours should be confirmed directly before they come.
Dongmyeong-dong is a parish under the advocation of Fatima, not a place of apparitions. The visit must respect the cult and the local community.
Prayer to Our Lady of Fatima of Dongmyeong-dong
Our Lady of Fatima, keeps the parish of Dongmyeong-dong and the city of Sokcho. It comforts those who maintain war wounds, accompanies separated families and protects those who work at sea. Teach us to contemplate Christ in the Rosary, to convert the heart and to build a peace based on truth and mercy. Amen.
