A parish founded in 1960
The Korean Episcopal Conference recorded Gacheon's erection on March 19, 1960. The parish currently belongs to the third vicar and the fourth pastoral region of the archdiocese of Daegu.
The date coincides with the solemnity of St. Joseph, but the registered patron is Our Lady of Fatima. The founding date should not be confused with the title of the church.
The patronage of Our Lady of Fatima
The official directory expressly identifies the Virgin Mary of Fatima. The title is linked to the call to prayer, conversion and peace received by the Church from the events of 1917 in Portugal.
Gacheon shares the advocation with other Korean parishes, but it is a different place, with territory, history and its own coordinates.
A network of ten missionary stations
The national directory accounts for ten mission stations dependent on Gacheon. This fact makes the parish seat the center of a network and not just a church of a single population.
The stations allow to celebrate and accompany the faith closer to scattered villages. Distance, population ageing and mobility make a rural pastoral system that needs coordination and constant presence.
A wide territory of Seongju
The parish serves all the municipalities of Gacheon, Geumsu and Suryun. It also includes Daecheon 1 and 2, Donam 1 and 2, and Okhwa 1 and 2, inside Daega-myeon.
Conserving these names avoids reducing the advocation to the main temple marker. The map points to the parish seat, but its real community extends through several rural areas.
The message of Fatima
John Paul II recalled that Fatima's call to conversion is deeply rooted in the Gospel. The message does not feed sensationalist curiosity: it asks to return to God, pray and take responsibility for peace.
The Rosary contemplates the life of Christ with Mary. In scattered communities it can also become a prayer shared by homes and small chapels when not all can easily go to headquarters.
Prayer for peace from the rural world
Peace is not an exclusive concern of large cities or political centres. It is built on family care, cooperation between villages, respect for the elderly and responsible use of land.
Fátima's advocation invites us to unite universal prayer with local decisions of reconciliation, service and solidarity.
Accompanying disease and loneliness
Benedict XVI presented Mary of Fatima as a close mother to those who suffer. In rural territories, distances can aggravate the loneliness of the sick and caregivers.
The ten missionary stations offer a structure to maintain links, detect needs and make the community present beyond the central temple.
Verified location
The Episcopal Conference publishes 16 Changcheon 2-gil, Gacheon-myeon, Seongju@-@ gun. The search for the Korean name and the province returns 35.8854262, 128.1672353.
The coordinate coincides with the official address of the parish headquarters and is the one used on this map. Mission stations should be studied individually if any of them have their own Marian patronage and sufficient documentation.
To visit and pray
Gacheon is an active parish and centre of a rural network. Time and travel with the Archdiocese should be confirmed, especially if a dependent station is to be visited.
The visit can be accompanied by a prayer for villages, farmers, the elderly and those who support small communities.
Prayer to Our Lady of Fatima of Gacheon
Our Lady of Fatima keeps the parish of Gacheon and its ten communities. He accompanies those who walk ways to celebrate the faith, protect the elderly and the sick, bless those who work the land and strengthen families. Teach us to convert the heart, pray with perseverance and build peace in each village. Amen.
