A parish of the diocese of Busan
The official directory of the Korean Episcopal Conference records Gaya within the Diocese of Busan and places it in the Busanjin district. The community is also located in the pastoral district of Gaya.
The official date of foundation is July 5, 1973. This page does not attribute to the current building an antiquity that the source does not document: it distinguishes the canonical history of the parish from the possible architectural stages.
The patronage of Our Lady of Fatima
The title of the title is shown in the official field of patronage. The identification comes not only from a statue or an oral custom, but from the directory maintained by the Catholic Church in Korea.
Gaya must be distinguished from other Korean parishes under the same title. They share a spirituality, but each has its own community, history and location.
The message of Fatima
The advocation refers to the events of 1917 in Cova da Iria, Portugal, and to the call to prayer, penance and conversion. The Church interprets that message in the light of the Gospel and not as a substitute for the revelation entrusted to the apostles.
The Rosary helps to contemplate the mysteries of Christ with Mary. His serene repetition does not evade reality: he has the heart to recognize sin, ask for forgiveness and serve.
Conversion before curiosity
John Paul II stressed in Fatima that the call to conversion belongs to the very core of the Gospel. The interest in sensationalist secrets, dates or interpretations should not displace that spiritual requirement.
Becoming means going back to God and reviewing decisions, relationships and habits. In an urban parish, this task reaches the family, the work, the use of property and the care of the neighbor.
Prayer for peace
Peace occupies a central place in the memory of Fatima. It is not limited to asking for the end of far-off conflicts: it requires rejection of violence, care for the truth and seek reconciliation without concealing injustice.
Busan, a port city open to displacements and meetings, offers a specific context for praying for peoples, migrants, sailors and families separated by borders or work.
Mary with those who suffer
Benedict XVI recalled in Fatima the maternal closeness of Mary to the sick and wounded. Devotion is verified when a community accompanies pain and does not leave the vulnerable person alone.
Prayer can lead to visits, listening, material support and collaboration with those who provide professional care.
A large community
The national directory records a large parish community without dependent missionary stations. The figures change over time and should not be treated as permanent, but show Gaya's significant pastoral function within her district.
Marian invocation belongs to that community life and not only to the ornament of the temple.
Verified location
The official address is 7 Gaya Gongwon-ro, Busanjin-gu, Busan. The direct mapping search of the Korean name of the temple returns 35.1528537, 129.0300052.
The point coincides with the address published by the Episcopal Conference and is used on the map.
To visit and pray
Gaya is an active parish. The current warnings of the diocese or the community should be consulted and the celebrations respected. Time limits should not be inferred from old data.
The visit can be accompanied by the Rosary and a prayer for personal conversion and peace among peoples.
Prayer to Our Lady of Fatima of Gaya
Our Lady of Fatima, protects the parish of Gaya and the city of Busan. Teach us to contemplate Jesus, to convert the heart and to work for a true peace. It accompanies families, the sick, those who come from afar and those who live from the sea. May our prayer be transformed into reconciliation, justice and service. Amen.
