An official dedication to Fatima
The directory of the Korean Episcopal Conference records Our Lady of Fatima as the patron of Sunseong. The same source confirms the founding date, direction and jurisdiction.
Sponsorship does not mean that there was a Marian apparition in Dangjin. The parish here venerates the advocation recognized by the Church from the events of 1917 in Portugal.
The parish founded in 2015
Sunseong was separated from Sinhapdeok in January 2015. The Catholic chronicle explains that it gathered several rural missionary stations to form a single parish community.
The institutional origin is recent, but it does not erase the previous history of these communities. The fact sheet distinguishes both plans in order not to attribute to the present parish a legal continuity of several centuries.
Christian roots in the region
The historical documentation links the area with Blessed Francisco Bae Gwan-gyeom, who about 1791 formed a community of faith in Yangon. In 1798, a chapel and small accommodation were prepared for Father Zhou Wenmo.
Bae was arrested and died in 1800 after being faithful during the interrogations. Then the persecution of 1801 destroyed the visible community and dispersed many believers.
A memory that should not be confused
The roots of Yangon belong to the Catholic history of the territory, but the present temple does not necessarily occupy that site or constitute a sanctuary of the martyr.
To remember with precision better honor those who suffered. The page avoids converting geographical proximity into unproven archaeological identification.
The new temple
The community acquired a land near the Sunseong-myeon administration. In 2016 he built a parish house and educational building; the temple works began in January 2017.
The faithful prepared a provisional chapel in a greenhouse, provided work, food, donations, copy of the Scripture and prayer of the Rosary. The building was completed in about a hundred days.
Fatima in the access of the temple
The entrance incorporates a work that recalls the centenary of the apparitions of Fatima, along with St Andrew Kim Tae- gon and a representation of Christ blessing the church.
This artistic program confirms that patronage is not only administrative: it was consciously integrated into the temple and the memory of its construction.
Dedication of the building
The community celebrated the entrance to the temple on May 13, 2017, centenary of the first apparition of Fatima. The solemn dedication presided over by Bishop Lazarus You Heung-sik took place on 10 March 2018.
The dates designate different celebrations; therefore both are preserved. To present them as a single event would produce an inaccurate chronology.
The Gospel Message of Fatima
John Paul II taught that Fatima's call to conversion belongs to the heart of the Gospel. It does not feed fear or curiosity about the future: it asks to return to God, to pray and to repair evil.
The Rosary leads to contemplating Christ with Mary. Their serene repetition can transform concern for the world into perseverance, responsibility and service.
Prayer for peace
Fatima is deeply associated with prayer for peace. From Korea, this request is particularly resonated by the division of the peninsula and the separate families.
Peace is not about forgetting injustices. It needs truth, protection of the weak, possible reconciliation and rejection of any language that dehumanizes the adversary.
A united rural community
The sources describe a community with many greater and limited resources that built the temple through cooperation. This story shows that parish vitality is not measured by size or budget alone.
Co-responsibility also requires care for those who cannot provide physical work or money. The prayer, listening and presence of the most fragile have their own value.
verified location for the map
The episcopal direction is 472-3 Sunseong-ro. The nominal chart of Korean cartography, corroborated by phone and address, places the temple in 36.8414838, 126.7116805.
The marker corresponds to the present parish of Sunseong and not to one of its old rural stations.
To visit and pray
The parish is in operation. It is appropriate to confirm the hours before moving, respect the veneration and apply for permission before photographing people or spaces of pastoral activity.
The visit can be accompanied by the Rosary for peace, for the elders of the rural world and for the small communities that support faith with perseverance.
Prayer to Our Lady of Fatima of Sunseong
Our Lady of Fatima, keeps the parish of Sunseong and all its communities. Teach us to convert the heart, to pray with perseverance and to repair the damage with works of mercy. It accompanies the elderly, strengthens rural families and brings reconciliation and peace to Korea. Always lead us to Jesus Christ. Amen.
