Our Lady of Fátima of Yongjam - Prayer, shared work and light in Changwon

In Yongjam, within the municipality of Changwon, a rural community raised its church by selling flowers, ginseng and small books of the Via Cruces. The parish, built in 1998, is dedicated to Our Lady of Fatima.

A confirmed advocation

The Episcopal Conference of Korea records MatureOur Lady of Fatima, as patron of Yongjam. Good News Catholic confirms the title, the date of foundation and the address.

The patronage refers to the apparitions of Fatima, Portugal. A Marian apparition in Yongjam and a local image recognized as miraculous are not documented.

Fátima en 1917

Lucía dos Santos and his cousins Francisco and Jacinta Marto reported meetings with the Virgin in Cova da Iria between May and October 1917.

The spiritual core recognized by the Church calls for prayer, conversion, penance and trust in God. It does not offer a timetable for meeting disaster curiosity.

The Rosary as a contemplation of Christ

The request to pray the Rosary occupies a central place in Fatima. Each mystery contemplates the life of Jesus Christ with Mary and leads to the Gospel.

To pray is not to accumulate figures to compare. Serene repetition must open the heart to truth, reconciliation and attention to others.

Penance without harm

A parish born in 1998

Yongjam was erected on 20 January 1998. A witness interviewed by the Catholic press recalled having participated since its initial stage as a quasi-parish.

The territory is characterized by its relationship with Changwon, Jinyeong and a rural population environment whose growth has been limited.

The name of Yongjam

The parish chronicle explains the toponym by uniting the character of "dragon," related to Guryongsan, and the sense of peak or peak.

This local interpretation is preserved as a story published by the community. It is not extended with undocumented etymologies.

The faithful sold flowers and ginseng in markets to finance the new church. Some traveled to Daegu and slept in simple conditions to reduce costs.

The date is not confused with the foundation of 1998 or with the apparitions of Fatima of 1917.

Since 2016, members of Yongjam have received recognition in Bible copy competitions. The community continued to promote a persevering reading of Scripture.

Copying texts does not replace putting them into practice. The chronicle summarizes the pastoral orientation in participating in the liturgy, meeting the Word, praying and receiving the Eucharist.

A cohesive community

The interviewees described a small parish with strong cooperation among its members. Before the pandemic, he celebrated busy Marian nights and Christmas festivals.

Cohesion must not exclude those who come new or silence disagreements. A healthy community listens, protects the vulnerable and is accountable.

To visit and pray

Yongjam is an active parish. You should call before, respect masses and meetings and not photograph people without permission.

In the garden the Rosary can be prayed for peace, for Changwon workers and farmers and for those who support small communities with silent service.
