The Korean Episcopal Conference set the foundation of Daedong on September 22, 1966. Its own digital address retains the number 66, a simple reference to the year of origin of the community.
The parish belongs to the eastern pastoral district of the diocese of Daejeon. Its temple is located in Dongdaejeon-ro, within the urban district Dong-gu.
The patronage of Lourdes
The episcopal directory expressly identifies 루르드의 SophiaOur Lady of Lourdes, as patron of Daedong. The same advocation occupies a central place in the identity of the diocese of Daejeon.
In Lourdes, France, the Virgin appeared in 1858 to Saint Bernardite Soubirous. The local bishop recognized the apparitions in 1862, and the place became a great center of prayer, conversion and care for the sick.
