A patronage confirmed by the Korean Episcopate
The directory of the Korean Episcopal Conference identifies Gaegeum as a parish and expressly registers Our Lady of Lourdes as a patron. The diocese of Busan also maintains contemporary references to the activity of the community.
The date of foundation, January 6, is not the feast of Lourdes, which is held on February 11. A liturgical relationship between the two dates should not be invented or a parochial foundation and dedication of the building should be confused.
The Virgen de Lourdes
The advocation comes from the apparitions recognized by the Church that Bernadette Soubirous testified in 1858 in the Grotto of Massabielle, France. His message calls for conversion, prayer and penance, and always leads to Jesus Christ.
The expression "Immaculate Conception" refers to the unique grace granted to Mary from the first moment of her existence in anticipation of the merits of Christ.
Lourdes and the sick
The liturgical memory of Lourdes coincides with the World Day of the Sick. Devotion invites the patient, families and health care to be accompanied with tenderness, but prayer never replaces diagnosis, treatment or professional care.
Christian hope allows us to ask for healing and, at the same time, to support the person when the disease continues. The dignity of the patient does not depend on an extraordinary healing.

Gaegeum is located in a densely populated area of Busan. Its foundation in 2012 testifies to the creation of new pastoral structures to accompany the Catholics of the neighborhood.
