The official directory of the Korean Episcopal Conference records the foundation of Gasuwon on September 19, 1979. The date distinguishes the canonical birth of the parish from other possible stages of building or reforming the temple.

The patronage of Our Lady of Lourdes
The same episcopal record expressly identifies Our Lady of Lourdes as her patron. It is not a question of deducting the advocation from an image or the informal name of an association: it is in the official field of patronage.

The origin of the advocation
Lourdes refers to the meetings that Bernadette Soubirous claimed to live in the Grotto of Massabielle in 1858 and which the Bishop of Tarbes recognized after the ecclesiastical research. Our Lady called prayer, penance and conversion.
When a Korean parish receives this advocation, it does not affirm a new apparition. It welcomes a spirituality already recognized by the Church and lives it in its own cultural and pastoral reality.

The water as a sign, in the way of magic
The source of Lourdes recalls baptism, inner cleansing and the life received from God. Their water should not be treated as a magical object or replace medical care.
The Christian faith integrates prayer, science, responsibility and solidarity. To ask for Mary's intercession is compatible with seeking diagnosis, treatment and psychological or social support.
An advocation present in many Korean parishes
