Marian devotion
The parish of Seodaesin, in the western district of Busan, is officially dedicated to Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Founded in 1955, he has spent seven decades of pastoral life under a title that unites prayer, trust and concrete help.

A confirmed dedication
The Episcopal Conference of Korea records Our Lady of Perpetual Relief as patron of Seodaesin. The diocese of Busan confirms the identity of the parish, its foundation, direction and pastoral service.
The title is the patronage of this particular community. It has not been inferred by similarity with other Korean parishes that venerate the same icon.
Fundada en 1955
The episcopal directory sets the erection of the parish 1 February 1955. In June 2025, the diocese documented the mass of thanksgiving for its seventy years, presided over by Bishop Joseph Son Sam- seok.
The two references fit in: 1955 was the founding year and 2025 was the seventieth anniversary. The Jubilee memory does not replace the canonical date, but confirms it.
The Perpetual Relief icon
The advocation is associated with the Byzantine icon guarded in the church of San Alfonso in Rome. Mary holds the Child Jesus, while the archangels present the instruments of the Passion.
The Child welcomes his Mother; Mary, in turn, looks at those who look at the image. The center of the scene remains Christ and the mystery of his redemption.
Intercession leads to Christ
The Church understands Mary's maternal help as an intercession dependent on the only mediation of Jesus Christ. Mary does not replace the Saviour or act outside of Him.
John Paul II explained that his motherhood remains in the Church as the accompaniment of the disciples. True devotion leads to listening to the Word, receiving the sacraments and serving the neighbor.
The Congregation of Our Lady of Perpetual Relief
The directory records the presence of religious of the Congregation of Our Lady of Perpetual Relief. This community, born in Pionyang in 1932, shares the same Marian title as the parish patron.
His history, through the division of Korea, adds to Seodaesin a special intention to pray for peace and reconciliation on the peninsula.
Seventy years of community
The diocesan celebration of 2025 testifies to the continuity of a parish that has accompanied baptisms, marriages, funerals, vocations and works of service for several generations.
A Christian anniversary is not just a figure. He invites us to thank those who passed on the faith, to recognize errors and to renew the commitment to the Gospel.
An organized Marian presence
In January 2026, the diocese reported on the seventieth anniversary of the Presidium of the Legion of Mary, also called "Our Lady of Perpetual Relief." Its beginning therefore dates back to the first months of the parish.
This fact does not create a second advocation or a second place. It shows how the same patronage was rooted in Seodaesin's prayer and lay apostolate.
Relief that becomes service
To ask Mary for help, she is committed to looking at the needs of others. Spiritual comfort becomes credible when a community accompanies older people, sick people, migrants, families and individuals alone.
The adjective "perpetual" does not promise the absence of evidence. It expresses persistent confidence in the maternal closeness of Mary and, for her, in the fidelity of Christ.
