Current status confirmed
The directory of the Episcopal Conference of Korea expressly records the Blessed Virgin Mary of the Rosary as the patron of Sigi-dong. It also confirms direction, founding date, diocese and its origin as a subsidiary of Suryu.
The Korean title is translated directly and preserved next to the Spanish title to avoid confusing it with other Marian claims of Jeongeup.
The semilla de Shinseong-ri
The Encyclopedia of Korean Culture places the origin in a missionary station established in Shinseong-ri in 1893. In June 1903 Father Augustine Kim Seung-yeon acquired land and a house and constituted the parish there.
This rural community was dependent on an extensive missionary network. His story shows how small seasons became stable pastoral centers.
The traditional set
Since 1909, a Korean church of eight crunches, a priestly house and a community hall, was built, completed in 1914. The formal dedication was held on 15 December 1918.
The former Priestly House of Shinseong-ri is preserved and recognized as a provincial cultural heritage. It is a different place from the present temple and does not share its marker.
Transfer to the city
In 1931 the parish moved to Myeongdeok-dong, in the urban core, and was named Jeongeup. In 1946 he moved again, this time to Cheongsu-dong, today Sigi-dong.
The changes respond to different historical stages and locations. The continuity corresponds to the parish community, not to a single building.
The Temple of 1957
The construction of the current set began in June 1957 and was completed on 16 December. In that dedication was established the patronage of the Queen of the Rosary, a Korean historical form equivalent to the Marian title that retains the directory.
The building survived as the center of a community that had suffered from reorganization and temporary dependence after the Korean war.
The name Sigi-dong
In January 1985 the parish of Yeonji-dong was erected from part of its territory. The ancient parish of Jeongeup then adopted the name of Sigi-dong.
In 2003 it celebrated the centenary of its foundation. The anniversary took as a reference the parish establishment of Shinseong-ri in 1903.
The Rosary, contemplation of Christ
St. John Paul II explained in Rosarium Virus Mariae that the Rosary, though Marian, is a prayer centered on Christ. With Mary, the mysteries of her life, death and resurrection are covered.
The repetition of the Avemaría does not seek to empty the mind. It offers a serene rhythm to listen to the Gospel, to remember people in need and to let prayer transform conduct.
A school of memory
The history of Sigi-dong is made of successive places, generations and names. The Rosary is also a prayer of memory: it preserves the events of Christ and contemplates them from the needs of the present.
To remember Christian does not mean to idealize. It involves thanking the good, recognizing wounds and transmitting the facts without erasing their complexities.
Prayer for peace
The Apostolic Letter presents the Rosary as a prayer for peace and for the family. Each mystery can welcome the concerns of Jeongeup, Korea and the world.
Peace needs work: to reconcile where possible, to protect those who suffer violence and to redress the damage caused with justice.
Three linked stations
The episcopal directory records three dependent missionary stations. The data shows that the parish is not limited to the urban temple and maintains pastoral responsibility over minor communities.
Do not add your markers here: each station requires an own research of name, patronage, address and current situation.
verified location for the map
The official address is 32 Trautsu 3-gil. The nominal mapping of the building 35.5655599, 126.8537100.
The point corresponds to the present temple of Sigi-dong, not to the old site of Shinseong-ri, to that of Myeongdeok-dong or to a dependent station.
To visit and pray
The parish is active. The hours may change, so it is necessary to confirm them directly and respect celebrations, activities and privacy of the faithful.
A mystery can be prayed for every generation that the community held and for the small rural stations, accompanying prayer with a work of reconciliation or closeness.
Prayer to Our Lady of the Rosary of Sigi-dong
Our Lady of the Rosary, keeps the parish of Sigi-dong and its communities. It tenderly preserves the memory of those who sown faith in Shinseong@-@ ri and accompanied each transfer. Teach us to contemplate Jesus Christ, to serve families and to build peace with truth and mercy. Amen.
