The parish of Yeondong, in the city of Jeju, is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary of the Rosary. He was born to accompany an urban area in rapid transformation and found in the Rosary a school to contemplate Christ with Mary and build community.

A new parish for a growing city
The diocese erected Yeondong on 2 August 2001 to attend an area of new urbanization between the parishes of Shinjeju and Nohyeong. The diocesan record recalls that it began with 321 families and 962 faithful.
It was the twenty-third parish of Jeju. During the initial phase it received the provisional name of the third district of Yeondong; it later adopted the final parish name.
The first Mass of Opening
On 3 November 2001, the new community held its first opening mass at the Shinjeju church. Contemporary news confirms both Yeondong's name and his recent erection.
The first years demanded to celebrate in a rented place. This fact helps to understand that the parish existed before the current building was available.
The temple built in stages
The works began on 15 January 2005. The church was completed on 8 May 2008, after forty-one months of work, and an entry mass had already been held on 18 November 2007.
The solemn dedication took place on 2 October 2010. During the preparation, the community organized training for its faithful and meetings with the inhabitants of Yeondong, showing that the material construction was accompanied by a human and pastoral construction.
Maria del Rosario
The Rosary walks through the mysteries of Jesus' life from the believing look of Mary. It is not to repeat words without attention: their serene rhythm sustains the memory of the Gospel and has the heart to follow Christ.
John Paul II described it as a prayer of deeply Christological orientation. Each oatmeal surrounds the name of Jesus and each mystery invites you to contemplate a stage in the history of salvation.
Feast of October 7
The diocese marks October 7 as the feast of the patron of Yeondong, in harmony with the Roman liturgical calendar. The universal celebration of Our Lady of the Rosary preserves and renews a long tradition of Marian prayer.
In an urban parish, this advocation offers a simple way to unite homes, generations and different situations around the life of Christ.
Prayer and daily responsibility
The parish history includes decisions aimed at caring for people and shared space. In 2010, the community launched a campaign to turn all its units into a tobacco-free area, after a period of preparation and awareness-raising.
The initiative is not part of the origin of the invocation, but it shows a concrete consequence of community life: prayer leads to the care of one's own health and others.
A neighborhood meeting place
Before the temple's dedication, celebrations were organized with the residents of Yeondong. The parish was thus understood not as a closed enclosure, but as a presence that seeks relations of respect and collaboration in the neighborhood.
The Rosary can sustain this opening: by contemplating the joyful, luminous, painful and glorious mysteries, the community learns to recognize the joys, works and suffering of those who live around it.

Yeondong is an active parish. The diocesan hours should be consulted in advance and the celebrations should be respected. The party is on October 7.
A visit can be accompanied by the paused prayer of a mystery of the Rosary, reading earlier the corresponding Gospel passage and leaving a time of silence.
