A new community in northern Busan
Namsan was established as a parish in 1988, in an urban area close to the National University of Busan and the slopes of Mount Geumjeongsan. The date and patronage are on the board of the Episcopal Conference.
During its early years, the community had to deal simultaneously with the pastoral organization and the construction of a stable church. The process lasted about two years.
A land offered to the community
A chronicle published after the consecration recalls the contribution of Augustine An Byeong-dong, president of the parish council. He donated the land, then valued at about two billion wones, and a bus to the parish.
In addition to the donation, he personally supervised the works to reduce costs and care for quality. History does not make the temple a monument to one person: it shows how professional goods and skills can be put at the service of an entire community.
The 1991 consecration
The temple was consecrated on 23 October 1991. The contemporary source points out that, once the building was finished, the faithful wanted the spiritual life of the parish to live up to the material effort made.
The placement of an image of Mary was also being prepared. The patron of the Rosary was thus linked to both the prayer and the visible memory of those who had made the new church possible.
Our Lady of the Holy Rosary
The Korean name The Holy Spirit appoints Our Lady of the Rosary Prayer. The advocation contemplates Mary as a teacher of a prayer that keeps its eyes on Jesus Christ.
The Rosary walks through the joy of incarnation, the light of Jesus' ministry, the pain of the cross and the glory of the resurrection. In this way it accompanies all Christian life and helps to interpret the daily efforts of a community.
Generosity and responsibility
The history of construction raises a question that remains topical: what can each person offer for the common good. Not all have land or technical knowledge, but all can give time, listen, prayer or care.
The Rosary educates precisely in that availability. Mary receives the word of God, meditates and makes her service. Your royalty is a royalty of surrender.
verified location for the map
The episcopal direction of 466 Geumsaem-ro coincides with the chart of Namsan Catholic Church. The coordinates 35.2645169, 129.0855272 point out the parish building in Geumjeong-gu.
The match of name with other temples makes this verification particularly necessary: the marker has not been obtained by seeking only "Namsan," but by contrasting city, street and patronage.
To visit and pray
It's an active parish. It is appropriate to check the current hours and to respect the celebrations and activities of the community.
The Rosary can be prayed for the benefactors, the volunteers, those who work in the construction and maintenance of churches and those who put their professional knowledge at the service of others.
Prayer to Our Lady of the Holy Rosary of Namsan
Virgin Mary of the Holy Rosary, keeps the parish of Namsan. Make us generous with the gifts we have received, responsible in work and humble in service. May the contemplation of Jesus Christ transform our goods, our time and our capabilities into a house open to all. Amen.
