An official Marian title
The Episcopal Conference of Korea expressly records the Sex Mole as a patron of Jeonnong-dong. The parish itself explains that the expression refers to seven painful events of Mary's life linked to Jesus.
Patronship is part of the founding identity of the community. It has not been inferred from a later work of art and does not correspond to a Marian apparition.
Mary does not run away from pain
The devotion to the Dolores of Mary does not seek to increase sadness or present suffering as a good in itself. Behold the faithfulness of a mother who loves Christ and remains with him at times she cannot control.
His presence teaches that accompanying does not always mean solving. There are pains to which the first responsibility is not to abandon, listen and protect the dignity of those who suffer.
The Seven Sorrows
- The prophecy of Simeon, who announces the sword that will pass through Mary's soul.
- He fled to Egypt to protect the Child from Herod's violence.
- The loss of Jesus during the pilgrimage to Jerusalem.
- The encounter with Jesus carrying the cross.
- The death of Christ in Calvary.
- The descent and reception of the body of Jesus.
- The burial of the Lord.
The formulations vary slightly between traditions, but they maintain the same itinerary: from the threat announced in childhood to the silence of the tomb.
Do not confuse them with painful mysteries
The Seven Dolores of Mary and the five painful mysteries of the Rosary are related, but are not the same series. The mysteries of the Rosary contemplate the Passion of Jesus from Gethsemane to the cross.
The seven pains cover a wider arc of Mary's life, from the presentation of the Child in the temple to her burial.
A parish born in 1965
Jeonnong-dong was formed when he separated from the parish of Cheongnyangni in December 1965. It responded to urban and pastoral growth in the eastern sector of Seoul.
The parish community conserves the 18 December 1965 as a date of foundation. The directory of the Episcopal Conference records the 28 December 1965.
A preserved documentary difference
The two sources are ecclesial and current, so this page does not remove a date to favor the other. These may be different days for erection, decree or effective start, or for a transcript to be clarified in file.
Until the founding document is available, the responsibility is to state that the parish was born in December 1965 and to record both dates.
From the old temple to the present
Over the decades, the previous building aged and stopped responding adequately to a large community. The parish began the construction of a new temple in the same urban environment.
On 11 January 2004, the Archbishop of Seoul, Monsignor Nicholas Cheong Jin@-@ suk, presided over the consecration of the new building.
Sixty years of community
In 2025 Jeonnong-dong reached the sixtieth anniversary of its foundation. The milestone links the first families from Cheongnyangni with a community that today brings together several thousand faithful.
To celebrate a Christian anniversary is not just to count years. He invites us to thank, review the fidelity to the Gospel and recognize those who quietly held catechesis, liturgy, care and mutual help.
The relief of the Seven Dolores
Within the temple was installed a work in relief dedicated to Teen. Catholic Times documented it in 2009 as a visual interpretation of Mary's suffering in the face of her Son's saving surrender.
The composition does not work as a simple ornament. It helps to travel the parish's own apvocation and turns the building into a permanent catechesis.
A diagonal like a sword
A strong diagonal line crosses the whole. It represents the sword announced by Simeon and serves as a unifying element of the seven scenes.
The visual wound does not separate Mary's life in unrelated episodes. He expresses how the same fidelity goes through motherhood, migration, search, passion and mourning.
From Egypt to the temple
On the left side there is Mary with the Child going through the desert towards Egypt. The scene recalls the fear of displaced families, the protection of children and the vulnerability of those who must leave their homes.
Then an open door represents the temple where Jesus is found after the anguish of his parents.
The way of the cross
In the upper central part, Mary finds Jesus on the road to Calvary. Under, look at his Son's hand nailed.
The relief avoids reducing pain to an abstract idea: it places it in a wounded body, a look and a relationship that remains.
Descending and burial
In the right sector, the marks of the nails and the contemplation of Jesus dead evoke the sixth pain. The lower part represents the grave, seventh pain.
The itinerary ends in silence, but the Christian faith contemplates that silence from the Resurrection. Mary Dolorosa is not an image of despair, but of love she expects even when she does not see.
The Parish Symbol
The parish itself explains that its emblem contains seven pillars, one for each pain. In the central pillar, the highest, a cross is located and the whole takes the form of a temple.
Thus, building, symbol and patronage convey the same message: the pains are gathered around the cross of Christ and become a call to communion.
A large community in Dongdaemun
The episcopal directory records more than four thousand five hundred faithful. The parish belongs to the seventh Dongdaemun- Jungnang district of the archdiocese of Seoul.
Its scale requires pastoral structures, but the number should not hide individual stories. The spirituality of Mary Dolorosa invites us to recognize who can be invisible within a crowd.
A transformed neighborhood
Jeonnong-dong is located in a residential area of Dongdaemun-gu near Cheongnyangni. The neighborhood has experienced reconstructions, new housing, increased urban value and changes in mobility and trade.
Transchanges can improve services while at the same time displacing old links. A parish established since 1965 can guard memory and facilitate meeting between residents of different generations.
Accompanying current pain
The seven pains offer a specific examination: migrant families, people looking for a loved one, mothers in the face of their children's illness, victims of violence, mourning homes and people who accompany a death.
The Christian response must include listening, competent help and professional referral when necessary. Prayer accompanies action; it does not replace medical, psychological, social or protection from abuse.
Mary with those who flee
The second pain recalls that the Holy Family knew the forced displacement. This prevents the use of Marian devotion to close the heart to refugees or migrants.
A city community can offer guidance, language learning, neighbourhood networks and respectful reception, without requiring that a person's vulnerability become public exposure.
Mary with those who seek
The loss of Jesus in Jerusalem gives name to the anguish of not knowing where we love. You can pray for missing people, young people, separated families and those who seek meaning.
Looking well requires perseverance and also collaboration. In real cases of disappearance or risk, the competent services must be activated immediately.
Mary by the duel
The last pains accompany death, the body received and the burial. The parish can be a place where the duel has time, word, silence and community.
Faith in the resurrection does not force you to pretend strength. It allows you to cry without reducing the dead person to its last moment.
The Feast of September 15
The Latin Church celebrates the memory of Our Lady of the Dolores on September 15, immediately after the Exaltation of the Holy Cross.
The liturgical proximity shows that Mary's pain is understood to be linked to the cross of Christ. It is not a parallel cult, but a contemplation of the Mother's faithful participation in her Son's mission.
The Crown of the Seven Dolores
A practice associated with this advocation is to meditate on every pain with a godfather and seven avemarias. It can be made complete or stopped in a scene related to a specific intention.
It is not a magic formula nor does it guarantee no suffering. He has the heart to look with Mary, to trust in God and to respond with charity.
verified location for the map
The episcopal directory and the direction record place the temple in 25 Sagajeng-ro 9-gil, plot Jeonnong-dong 293-1. Mapping by name and address returns 37.5775871, 127.0552139.
The marker corresponds to the parish building, not to the administrative centre of Jeonnong-dong or to the station of Cheongnyangni.
How to correctly identify the place
The romanized name may appear as Jeonnongdong, Jeonnong-dong or Chònong-dong. The Episcopal Code 201000216, the Korean address and name, and the Korean name, are eliminating ambiguity.
It should not be confused with Protestant churches in the neighborhood that incorporate Jeonnong into his name.
Para visitr with reject
Jeonnong-dong is an active parish. The schedules change and must be checked on your website or in the official directory. During the liturgy it is appropriate to keep quiet and not to photograph people without permission.
The relief can be seen slowly following the seven pains. A respectful visit does not seek to consume images, but to let each scene awaken a compassionate intention and response.
Prayer to Our Lady of the Seven Dolores of Jeonnong- dong
Mary, Mother of the Seven Dolores, keeps the parish of Jeonnong-dong and the families of Dongdaemun. You who heard the prophecy, protected the Child, sought him, and stood by his cross, and accompanied those who flee, wait, care and cry. Deliver us from passing through suffering and teach us to serve with tenderness, prudence and perseverance. Always lead us to the hope of the Risen Christ. Amen.
